Absolutely wrong, MD is one of his weakest. It's still good, but its mystery is watered down, the plot twist really is "just a dream". Like I said, still enjoyable, but Lost Highway felt much more compelling and Inland Empire much more complex. Wild at Heart was more fun, Eraserhead had a stronger atmosphere, Blue Velvet was more tense. MD was an attempt to string bits of a tv show into a story, and although these bits are entertaining, the payoff of solving it is little because it's literally just "oh that person was at a party in real life that's why they were unexplainably weird in the dream" compared to say Lost Highway were it's all facets of his mind justifying the murder he commited; the people are his projections of the people in his life reformed to fit his narrative and the mystery man represents truth. All this is much more rewarding to figure out whereas MD not only has less of a mystery, but feeds it to you much more obviously.
