Thanks kid

He's a customer of ours. Nice guy and his garage is fucking sick. He's super humble in person.

And yes, he is always wearing that fucking denim outfit.

Yeah you sure miss that talk show host that was famous when you were like 11.

He wasn't funny.

I'm sure all those dumb cars will be a sound investment
>>

he stays famous even though my age constantly changes

and yes, I do miss him. Ever since he's been gone, night shows have become entirely partisan. he was a comedian first, but nowadays politics come first and jokes come second.
>>
>>79529614
his car show is massively successful on CNBC. you don't exactly need to feel bad for him.

Jimmy on the other hand....

Jimmy, yeah, he is a balanced comedian too. But unfortunately, he's not funny.

Conan is such a piece of shit for creating the anti-Leno lynch mob. Why is it Leno's fault that he is more popular? Meanwhile Conan has been reduced to a glorified Twitch streamer.

go to bed, Jay.

It was NBC's fault for trying to shaft him while also trying to keep him and devalue the Tonight Show brand in the process by moving it after midnight.

It was like 3 bad decisions in one.

Fallon or Kimmel, or both

>>
>>79530071
he literally said he doesn't blame Leno in his goodbye speech.

the animosity was just for funzies and mainly audiences playing Teams like it was a sport or something. Leno shat on Conan in his bits too.

the anti-Leno movement had been there since he originally took the Tonight Show. It was supposed to go to Letterman but NBC went with the more popular Leno instead.

It was actually Kimmel who had any real animosity towards Leno, calling him out on Leno's own show and then doing that episode where he dressed up like Leno.

I miss when talk shows weren't all DUDE WHITE PEOPLE SUCK LOL TRUMP IS BAD AHAHAHAHA CURRENT YEAR GUYS COMON
>>
It's strange how every old school comic of his generation says Leno was the best out of all of them. What the fuck are they seeing differently?
>>
Can anyone explain to me why Leno is so popular? I honestly cant see it. His monologue jokes are beyond dumb, childish to the point I could honestly see a 7 year old write them. His interview style is passable, but he constantly blurted out unfunny comments and makes his stupid laugh like hee hee hee. Now that Jimmy Fallon copies Leno's style of blurting out dumb jokes/comments while the guest is talking everyone things hes dumb. So honestly, how is Leno funny? I really cant see it.
>>
>>79531050
if Trump was president then they would have.
>>
>>79531307
No one can explain humour to those who don't get it.
>>
>>79529684
whoever keeps posting these freaks needs to realize his meme is too weak to ever take off outside of /pol/ - paranormal
>>
>>79531455
Could you give me a quick rundown on why you think that?
>>
I was always a Letterman guy and I always gave Jay a lot of shit but I do really miss him at this point. He seemed to understand that he was just a guy trying to make people laugh before bed and he never tried to use his show to right great wrongs. The Jon Stewart knockoffs have totally polluted late night. Sad!
>>
>>79531050
In general the American election was the most toxic thing to happen to culture in the 10s. There's vitriol everywhere, everyone just wants to rub their political opinion in your face, everything is related to Trump, Hillary or both. I hate it
>>
>>79531416
>humour
>says someone from the country that sent us John Oliver and James Cordon
>opinion discarded
>>
>>79529614
Jay Leno isn't reading your thread, dumbass.
>>
Has anyone read the book on the Leno-Conan fued? Conan actually comes across really badly, Jay seems like an autistic workaholic whereas Conan seems like a petulant child who felt entitled to the tonight show just because he watched Carson with his dad. He made a bunch of terrible career decisions and refused to listen to any advice from execs on how to improve his terrible ratings. Leno basically recognised that most people simply want some predictable unchallenging entertainment to decompress with, while Conan thought he was some daring artist even though all late night talk shows are inherently mediocre shilling vehicles.
>>
>>79531683
that's not the impression the book gives at all

> a petulant child who felt entitled to the tonight show just because he watched Carson with his dad.
like, the book is nowhere near this editorially biased

It's pretty even handed and doesn't place blame anywhere. It just chronicles the clusterfuck.
>>
>>79531050
did you miss the entire 00s? literally every joke on every late show was about how hilariously stupid bush was. it's no different now. why do republicans literally always elect mental deficients? reagan, w bush, trump. lmao what a fucking list
>>
>>79531471
because it randomly gets posted in every /tv/ thread and gets no responses beyond "who?". I don't understand why that guy keeps trying
>>
>>79531750
That's' not entirely true. Every president has been the butt of late night jokes but until now comedians haven't dedicated their entire opening monologues to whining about them every night of the week.
>>
>>79531683
Hi Jay, I got some freshly boiled denim I found under the bridge I'll sell you for a million dollars.
>>
>>79531750
No, there was always something in the news but not like this. It also didn't saturate everything culturally like it does now, you can't watch TV or listen to podcasts without hearing about it
>>
>>79531855
not really. clinton had hardly anything directed at him until lewinsky, which were just sex jokes. his existence in and of itself wasnt low hanging comedic fruit. Obama, the constitutional law professor, even less so. I mean just imagine the trump version of the Bushisms book, the man literally cannot concoct a coherent sentence
>>
>>79531948
if you don't understand how Trump's campaign and election is more significant than any of those scandals, you haven't been watching the news enough.
>>
>>79531948

Wrong. Way to prove you were a preteen then.
>>
>>79531948
you're simply wrong. rewatch any late night monolgue from 2000-2004. it was literally always slathered in bush mockery. it tapered off with his reelection and the redundancy of "lol bush is dumb" set in, but those first few years were trump-levels of obsession
>>
>>79531750
I guess you missed the last 8 year of obama cock sucking """""""""""""comedians"""""""""'".
>>
>>79531750
what's the deal with republicans voting for actors? they loved reagan, fred thompson and schwarzeneggar. why? do they just get swept up in their charisma?
>>
>>79532125
what was there to joke about? the guy was an ivy league scholar. his simple existence wasn't comedic like bush, the daddy's boy, fake texan, failed oil man, or donald "grab em by the pussy" trump. say what you will about obamas policies, but policy doesn't = humor. people do.
>>
>>79531740

The book is neutral but that is the impression I got, Conan was a fucking idiot who worshipped the concept of the tonight show at the expense of his own career.

I saw it and it really wasn't that bad. Kathy Bates even won an emmy for playing Jay's manager.
>>
>>79532138
Republicans always vote republican doesn't matter who the fucking nominee is
Democrats are the ones that vote based on muh charisma

The old saying is republicans fall in line democrats fall in love.
>>
>>79532138
I read your comment in Jerry Seinfeld's voice.
>>
PRESIDENT OBAME CALLED ME
>>
>>79531307
To explain requires paraphrasing a bit from another comic, George Carlin. I'm not a big fan of Carlin, nothing against him, just don't find him especially hilarious. But he did say some insightful things, including the perfect explanation for why Jay Leno was given The Tonight Show and why he was more popular than David Letterman

"Think about how stupid the average person is. Then ponder the fact that half of the people are dumber than that."

Tl:DR Normies gonna norm
>>
>>79532384
So Democrats vote is based on the qualities of the candidate while Republicans vote is driven by dogmatic loyalty to the party? I guess that explains still winning the popular vote while losing the election.
>>
>>79532384
democrats don't vote one charisma, they vote on who makes them seem more progressive

>>79532244
it was common for young comics coming up in the 80s to beatify the tonight show. they still often wax poetic about the "mythical carson" and the legacy they want to maintain if they ever get the seat
>>
>>79533050

the generation after venerates SNL for similar reasons

the sooner these anachronistic institutions die off the better
>>
>>79532502
tl;dr is lower case and with a semicolon, not a colon. learn how to '04 internet
>>
>>79533050
the thing is "the tonight show" isn't a special entity that deserves that kind of respect. it was just a good show because of a good host, good writers and a political and social climate that was fitting for that kind of humor at the time. but the show was on the heels of other famous, pioneering "late shows" that were equally respected by the previous generation. Carsons late show is simply what the 80s/90s comedians grew up watching, so they feel affection and nostalgia for, but there's no subjective reason to revere it so highly it that actually impacts your life and career the way conan did
>>
>>79533186
they will always be replaced by other products of their time. I can imagine the neets of the 40s bitching about how overrated bob hope was
