No one doing their taxes.
>>

this desu

The Hobbit would be a good movie if about 5 hours were cut out of the trilogy and condensed into one movie. 3 movies worked for LoTR because the source material was literally 3 books long and the director had a clear vision of the movies from the beginning, while the Hobbit was 1 childrens novel spread across 3 movies with each movie being at least 2 and a half hours long that wasn't sure if it wanted to be a character analysis, drama, comedy, or family action/adventure and suffered because of this.
>>
>>79528212
The three-movie split
Literally everything that was bad about the movies can be traced back to that.
Alfrid? Created for filler after three-movie split
Elf/dwarf romance? Added in re-shoots after three-movie split
Smaug chase scene and CGI gold statue? Created as a last minute climax for the second movie after three-movie split
All the horrible Legolas stunts in BotFA? Done on a green screen after his role expanded after the three-movie split
If they had stayed two-movies, and they probably would have if Jackson had gotten the time to work it all out before hand instead of winging it on the spot, it would have been two great ones

The ricidulous amount of cgi used. Orcs didnt look like orcs, dwarves looked fake. I can understand Smaug being cgi but the rest of the movies apart from his scenes and dialogue were just utter shit.

>Sauron fleeing from an strong independent woman elf
>>
>>79528398
Nah, one movie isn't enough. They had it perfect at first with two movies, where the first one ending with them escaping the elves. You have tio understand that the Hobbit book is only that short because it's written in a completely different way from LotR. It would just be them going from location to location every five minutes and scenes would just be rushed through without breathing room if the book was condensed into one movie.

Jackson has never had an issue with making a 3-4 hour movie. The director cuts of all the LoTR and Hobbit movies are at least 3 hours, with RoTK being just over 4 hours long. I can understand MAYBE splitting up the Hobbit into 2 movies, but 3 made Jackson have to pad it out with a lot of pointless filler and poorly done action scenes, as he didn't have the time that he did with LoTR
>>
>>79528536
Yes just like how JRR brings back Gandalf after he dies fighting the Balrog. I loved the LOTR but I just dont agree with a few of his choices.

It's fucking annoying to know that fan edits that get rid of the bloat show how good the cinematography and underlying story still is.
Damn Jackson for letting Warners call the shots and not resisting when they told him to create three movies instead of the original two.
>>
>>79528212
The fact that it was a trilogy. ENDLESS filler in a story that could've fit a 2-hour runtime
>>
>>79528411
This and that fucking goat riding...Billy Connolly doesn't belong in a LOTR movie
>>
>>79528747
Not even. What Snapchat tier filter did they put over the source footage? Even the natural landscape shots looked fake and garbage compared to the original trilogy.
>>
>>79528890
I kind of liked that the Maple Films edit color corrected some of that to fit in with the original movies. Made it feel almost like the same universe.

The third one

The first two were ok but the third one was "well you know people aren't digging this so let's just get through it and finish"
>>

Why the fuck did Peter Jackson even make these movies

He seems like someone who actually cares about the material, so why fuck it up so badly? He has plenty of money, I don't think he's really a George Lucas type that really wants more of it. At least the Star Wars prequels you could see what he was going for, a misguided attempt but nonetheless genuine. This is just trash.

He literally had to. He was only supposed to be an executive producer, but they lost Guillermo Del Toro at the last minute and couldn't lock in another director, so he just had to step up and do it.

There was a pretty good behind-the-scenes doc floating around on YouTube a year or two ago where you could tell he was in over his head and his heart wasn't in it at all.

Their lazy film making and choreographies really stand out when you watch it in 60fps.

Implying you didn't get chills watching this for the first time.

>>
As soon as I saw CGI orcs I lost interest.
>>
Peter Jackson not having any prep time. Del Toro dropped out and he was basically given a few months for preproduction compared to the 3 or 4 years he had on LOTR. They threatened to give the movies over to Brett Ratner to direct forcing Jackson to say fuck that and step in to try and saved it. Then as everyone has said they forced Jackson to create a third movie during production causing him to change pretty much the whole second half of the story. This is why you have so much extra padding, poor CGI, and poor characters. They simply didn't have the time to make it great
>>
>>79530047
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20vA9U7J2qQ
You're probably thinking of this. Jackson himself seems tired and worn out. Think about it, he's spent so many years making movies in this universe, he's probably fucking sick of it especially right on the heels of the last two. It's like why as James Bond movies go along the actors generally get edgier and more tired of doing the same exact routine. It's probably why he didn't want to do the Hobbit movie in the first place. It really needed some fresh eyes, I think Del Toro would have done a decent job
>>
>>79530000
>the best

I'd hate to see the worst

Also what does having no pre-production have to do with shit like having Legolas jumping off rocks? They could have just cut that trash

>>
>>79530792
its easier to make a cgi heavy scene or sequence in post than to take the time to film something practically on a set during principal photography.

just look at the video here >>79530726
you get to the point where you just have to make something up on the spot on a green screen without knowing what you are making. You just need to throw something in. It would be worse if they planned that out a year before, storyboarded it, did pre viz, and then shot it the whole time thinking that's cool.

I think the hobbit could be better understood if we were to assume as much.
>>
>>79528212
Everything relating to the elves was poorly handled. Legolas shouldn't have been there. Tauriel should never have been created. The elf king being a traitor and asshole was too much.

I like how they expanded on the Necromancer aspect, though it feels poorly written.

Also, there was never any tension in the movies. During a recent re-read of the book I paid more attention to the pacing of events and how tension is created through the sheer length of time that passes.
>>
>>79528212
the legolas matrix shit and that weird fight galadriel video game fight scene

the films were mediocre to bad generally, but these were the only scenes that were memorably bad
>>
it was just an excuse for jackson to make "cool scenes". Especially the EE shows how he wanted to have all those funny scenes of fighting various monsters and shit.

none of these bring the story forward
>>
>>79528212

The fact that it was 3 movies long and they insisted on cramming in hours upon hours of fucking appendix material. They could have made a 3.5 hour Hobbit movie that contained all of the book's content without skipping anything. That's all we fucking needed.
