Why do some hipsters claim this is their favorite film?
It's like a 120 minute episode of the twilight zone with similar production values. In russian.
You could crunch this down to one hour or maybe less and it would lose nothing.

150* minutes my bad
bimp
someone makes these claims daily, why do you think anyone's going to respond?
>>79523968
Makes what claims?
I've had this shit in my queue for years. I watched it and it's mediocre.
>>79522288
Why would it being in russian be a detriment?
Unless you can't read subtitles, that is.
>>79524031
Why do you assume that saying it's in russian implies it's a detriment.

So is this film a meme like boku no paku or something?
Nobody actually likes it?

Prefer Soderbergh's version if I'm honest.
I really couldn't give a damn about the book and which of the two is closer to the original text. What matters is the success of it on screen and to me Soderbergh's version is a more fulfilling cinematic experience. I realise of course, that I am in the minority on this.
Of Tarkovsky's films, I also believe Solaris to be his weakest, so there's that.
Because it's critically acclaimed and from an exotic country (at least from the point of view of Western hipsters).
Tarkovsky is pretty entry-level as far as non-mainstream non-Western cinema goes so he's often on the lists of plebs pretending to not be plebs.

Not even memeing but read the book. It's good.
