The Simpsons died with Maude
did anyone else not find her that attractive when you were young? I've since gotten older and found her more attractive as a character.

The writers for pulling this cheap stunt.
Flanders used to be the perfect happy successful neighbor that Homer used to look at and feel bad about himself. There used to be a reason behind his 'stupid flanders' attitude. It made us feel sympathetic with Homer because his family was so dysfunctional and his marriage wasn't perfect.
With this episode Homer is the post-Grimes Homer, the goofy idiot who gets to try a fun new job every week and never faces consequences for his actions.
Homer inadvertently kills Flanders wife, gets off scott-free and has to console Ned, who becomes the sad lonely religious guy with sheltered kids.
Once they started having other characters come to Homer for advice, the show was over. It had completely subverted itself.
