What did you think of the newest episode?
Eros changing its orbit was kinda cool, really wondering what is going on there, probably building some kind of beacon or so for the aliens
Hated how the episode abandoned its scientific ground with the orbit stuff.

Quite good, not Neuromancer or Dune great, but better then 90% of what out there. Only time I was not liking the books was when the Eros Zombies was going on, as I was afraid the book was going to crap with zombies. But I was glad I was wrong.

In season 1 there is a interracial gay couple, but you only see them eating together as a couple.

Well then you don't have to worry, the only interracial couples are a gay couple and a guy who been so radioactive he can't have kids.

Yeah, this is the only part of the show that was better in the books, not the other way around like the rest of the show.

Here's how it was in the books:

Miller watches the incoming ship, accepting his death, he feels there is nothing else for him. The Eros radio that was incoherent and spouting only a few words suddenly screams, "DON'T YOU FUCKING TOUCH ME," and Eros moves.

The other characters make the books interesting and it'll be the same way with the show. Not a problem imo. I think Amos' actor is really starting to get the character and that's good since he's one of the best parts of the books.

I wouldn't think so. There's more depth to the books, better insight to what each of the characters are thinking and that sort of thing. The conceptualization of things ruins it for me usually, though. I prefer to read books before watching shows because I like to imagine things for myself and then see how it's presented on the screen. The other way around, and it's hard for me to not see an actor's face and hear their voice when I'm reading. It's not always bad, just my preference.

It's literally the main thrust of a lot of the story, and similiar but more pronounced to how it is in the show. Belters are people who live in space and so are extremely tall and thin with weak muscles. They can't go 'down the well' to planets and are confined to the low g moons and space stations. It's very rare for them to be in complete zero g though. All of the ships are usually under constant acceleration to some degree providing a sense of gravity be it half a g or, in combat scenarios up to ten.

And if we are getting mildly spoilery, the fact that Belter's are unable to live on planets gets very relevant in the later books, especially in 5 and 6

They have designs for smaller suits out already, but they already have built the bigger suits that are proven, and it expensive to just do a mission to human rate a new suit. Then launch new suits into space.

For example, Nasa has a whole series of missions with satellites that nothing but LEO orbiters that prove that a set of components can be used in space. One reason why Nasa computers in space are normally 10 year old designs before launched in critical missions.

Star Helix boss, the police captain. And probably the clearest and most plausible case of incompetence in management in the series. Presented as efficient, and keeping the Ceres-police state functioning during disruptive times and weak administration- BUT:

The Mao case was supposed to go into the deadfile, will of her secret OPA masters. So she gave it to her worst cop, and took his partner off of it for good measure. Only Miller *wasn't* an incompetent cop. He was a cop in the process of burning out- a morale issue- during the course of which, he was an an erratic performer and an absolute asshole to people, not least to Captain Shaddid. She personally hated him. She was the person in charge of determining just how competent he was at the various skill-sets of his profession and presenting the analysis of that to world as reality, and using that analysis in predictable ways to pursue set goals. Miller was a jerk to her and she fucking hated him. So Miller gets to be an incompetent cop in her mind, and to Anderson Dawes ears.

Food/water can be supplied by earth since its so close, but i'm sure there is plenty of water on the moon for it to be self-sufficient

Mars still has pretty low gravity. Unlike mars, the effect of lunar low-G can be mitigated by rotating people between earth and the moon (which is kind of impractical with mars's 6 to 12 month transit time, and we don't have magic space drugs to low-G effects like in the expanse)

magneto doesn't matter because we'd be living underground in either case and terraforming mars would take hundreds of years

moon provides us a much cheaper way to build future spacecraft/stations and clearly the most viable first colony for earth

Closeness has nothing to do with it - it is cost. The cost of getting stuff into orbit is the biggest limiting factor in space exploration.

It is much less expensive to figure out how to get water (which is very heavy) and other consumables from the local area then spending millions of dollars to launch it.

The moon gravity is so low it is almost not enough to keep people from tipping over. Mars has enough gravity (1/3 of the earth) that the impact on humans is much less then freefall or really minor gravity like the moon.

The moon has limited water supplies - thus limiting the area that can be used. in addition while mars is VERY cold, the moon has much larger temperature range since it is airless, which means that it harder to engineer stuff for it.

moon temps range from ice cold (-183 degrees Celsius) to boiling (104 degrees Celsius). Mars goes from -133 to 20.

Rotating people from Moon to earth would be VERY expensive. it would be far cheaper to just spin up a small station and have it for gravity treatments, but you wouldn't even need that for Mars, as it has high enough gravity to for key body functions.

Should I keep watching? Why?
>>
sometimes I wish japanese made anime based on good sci-fi books instead of their shitty manga, LN etc.
>>
>>79523634
Yes it gets better, and I think you are the first to complain about the CGI for this TV show, as it normally thought of as being very good visual effects for TV.

If you don't like the 4th episode then perhaps it not for you.
>>
>>79523634
I have a personal rule against watching shows that I don't like but it's up to you of course.
>>
>>79523634
I think season 2 has good CGI
season 1 had some good cgi too at times

Yea well bad CGI is a minor issue for me, it's that it doesn't look like there's anything that makes it worth it to keep watching regardless.
I guess what I'm asking is, is the writing good, are the characters likeable? Does it make me care and root for or against some faction like OP said? Etc

Holden starts off as a dick, just like in the books, he begins to develop into something else.

Miller is very likable. Amos is amazing. I always tell people to make it to episode 4. If after Episode 4 this isn't what you want to watch, then stop.

>>79523963
;__;

Muh Nauvoo!
>>
It took me until the 4th episode to really start getting into it but after that I blitzed through the rest of the first season
>>
>>79524167
iirc first few episodes were rather boring
>>
>>79524191
yep, 2nd episode is a bit slow as you are learning about the Roci crew, the 3rd one ends up with you wanting to see what happens, and the 4th episode is what sells the show.
>>
I thought Miller was going to die for a moment then I thought Eros was going to warp like the island from LOST

How do you know what impact martian gravity would have on humans? I mean a mars colony would be effectively cut off from earth so we're talking very long-term exposure.

A lunar colony would be not cut off, the bulk of the cost is in getting things out of earth orbit and we already do this very regularly with ISS people and cargo. The moon could build spin stations and ships much, much cheaper than earth ever will. All we need to do is to get enough (alot) starting supplies and people to the moon for them to get self-sufficient and then set up mining and manufacturing.

He actually has a baby face in the books, so they got that part right. He's also bald though.

The actor was apparently in the middle of reading the first book when he was called to audition.

He went NUTS with it, read the novella about Amos' origins and paid a shrink to read it and tell him how a person who'd been through that would behave/think as an adult.

He might not fit the books' description EXACTLY but the actor's nailing the character so I'm happy.

Splitting with the Roci crew in the book tears him up inside. It's pretty much the moment where he loses the last bit of non-depressive behavior in him and sets him up to be in the mood for what he's about to pull on Eros. In his head, Julie is all he has left.

Good anime is generally rare. Let me shill Yamato 2199 to you. It's not hard and fairly upbeat, sompared to Expanse. It's closer to space fantasy like Star Wars, but the visuals and animation are beautiful. There is a second season coming out soon.
