not gonna directly argue or contribute to this thread but american dad is definitely a slight step above family guy and if you disagree you're worse than a redditor

The best episodes are the ones that take a basic sitcom trope and run it in a weird American Dad way.

Bully for Steve, an episode about standing up to bullying, was done in such a way that Steve doesn't learn anything, and Stan instead learns a lesson. Less Money More Problems was again a twisted trope and was brilliant.

Yeah, stuff like this is why it's good. American Dad actually manages to hold on to a plot with good jokes for an episode and twist around a lot of tropes.. Even normie memes like "I saw the sign" were perfect for American Dad.

Family Guy can't even handle having a plot for 24 minutes or whatever anymore. It'll start with a semi plot then pad out space with so many non sequitor jump cuts that its not only impossible to follow, but not even worth it from an ironic comedy standpoint. The main is the absurdity of the situation. Most of the time the actors who crossdressed could never be mistaken as women. So seeing men dressed up in nice women's clothing was just absurd. On it's own it'd never work, but combined with talented actors it did. Carry On films did well on it.
