>>79496629
>>79498003
I liked how Mass Effect has heat sinks for their guns that basically functioned as ammo for their infinite energy universe..
Fire your laser gun until the heat sink is red hot, eject/cycle it for a cool one and fire some more.
>>79498209
Their ammo was not "infinite" (inb4 ME2 retcon fuck that shit) but essentially used a block of matter which is shaved off by the gun to make projectiles. Each shot fires a customized bullet tailored to distance of target plus environmental conditions.
But yes the heat sink trick still gave combat a scarcity element which made it fun.
>People die by 22. & 9mm rounds in movies

The .22lr legend comes from 80 year old duck hunters who hang out at gun shows.
>It's the most commonly sold type of ammo THEREFORE it kills more people every year than any handgun or rifle, including military ammo
>See the bullet can penetrate the skull but then in bounces around inside and turns the brain to swiss cheese. It is therefore the most dangerous ammo ever
And yet those same Fudds won't use it on anything larger than a beaver.
Somehow this .22LR urban legend has lingered since the 1970s, or possibly earlier.

>>79498840
That is handgun only, and those are very, very odl numbers from another era. The .22 and .25 are used in "Saturday night specials" and those were a lot more popular in the 80s than they are now. Gang killings involved discrete and easily concealable firearms so they could get in close and assassinate rivals at night clubs or public places. In the 70s and 80s compact revolvers were far more common among street criminals.
The FBI noted a significant demographic shift fro mthe late 80s through the 90s. The top 3 handguns used to be .357, .38 special, and .22 in that order. Now 9mm and .380 are by far the most common. Criminals became more bold in the 90s and they wanted to be seen brandishing their glock. A surge in drive by shootings in broad daylight also caused a shift to larger capacity magazines, carbines, and shotguns.
No one uses a .22 in a drive by. The .22 is what their grandfather used to rob liquor stores in his youth.

It wouldn't be quite that bad, yes your gun will eventually melt or warp from overheating, but that shouldn't be an issue unless you're firing something fully automatic. A more pressing issue is dust, since most all ground fights will take place on shitty airless rocks covered in super fine dust that gets everywhere. The gun's moving parts should either be completely sealed to be kept out of vacuum or a new lubricant that doesn't dry out or boil in vacuum must be created.

Why didn't they pick this one as the new standard for american troops? Was it because of the convoluted system? Too hard to take apart and clean?
>>79508565
This gun is really sexy.
I ain't got time to meme
>>79501375
I had guns, but lost them in a tragic flooding accident.

Hot objects radiate infrared and would therefore cool in space.
>>79511850
Legitimate chuckle.
>>79502300
Thats just a thompson machine gun.
>>79514094
>Too hard to take apart and clean?
Yeah you had to send that shit back whenever it jammed so not ideal for field use.
>>79516734
We're really sorry about that, Sir Bearington.
>>79495927
The SPAS-12 does look really sexy, though
>>79511767
That's an Enfield, mate.
>>79504417
DARPA made a military use internet. British made it usable around the world.

Prepping the Brrrrrrrrtttttt

This is a terrible meme. There is no atmosphere in space. Therefore the heat anything has takes ages to dissipate. So that gun will remain hot.
>we need a weapon that we can hype up as extremely powerful in the fiction but is only a mediocre Range 24 STR 4 AP 5 Rapid Fire infantry firearm in the game sir!

I'm sure it's less to do with "guns don't work in space" and more to do with "I don't want holes in my space station"
>>79517939
Thinking of a bolter round in term of calibers we use is meaningless as lore-wise it's a small rocket that is designed to explode after penetrating enemy armour/flesh.
But yeah, it's not that impressive in table-top.
>>79499681
The wast majority of the audience don't know that and their only reaction is "wow! cool gun!".
