best and most surreal depiction of aliens in any movie?
the aliens in Skyline looked interesting. it's a shame the script was written by eight-year-olds and the human characters are completely unsympathetic.

The 50s version of WotW used to scare the hell out of me, man. I remember being so disturbed by the scene toward the end, where all those people are huddled in the church singing hymns, basically just waiting to die while the world is being blown up around them.

>>79485808
I like the alien from Alien the most (probably).
Really plays up the central themes of the film and it's downright horrifying.
>>79486136
the book was a bit retarded desu (or just out of taste/obsolete, since it was writen in the early 20th century) it actually made the warfare between humans and advanced aliens more Symmetric than a complete extermination (one british warship even destroyes 3 tripods before being sunk).
>>79486132
Skyline is a movie I have to remember I have seen sometimes, though you mentioning it kind of makes me want to go back and rewatch it.
>>79486679
well it has to be somewhat of a fight. In Independence Day we take down their city-sized giganto ships with puny F16s. I actually think Battlefield Earth was the most realistic, when they took out all of Earth's defenses in 9 minutes or something

What was the point of the buried ships? Why didn't the aliens know about bacteria? Why did bacteria affect the shields?
>>79487669
This. They had a really neat ramshackle design, and gave off a great vibe of 'rough biotechnology'
patrician's choice right here
>>79487697
I thought that shit was kind of stupid, but I guess Spielberg or somebody thought it would be cool for there to be a scene of them sprouting out of the ground. Hell, I don't know, maybe it's in the original novel.
>>79485808
Arrival
>tfw Abbott is death process
>>79487697
>buried ships (probably not buried but actually teleported through the lightning storm with the riders too, they are aliens, they would figure a way to transport large objects as humans are developing this today)
>probably because they don't have the ability to thoroughly observe and study the smallest details of the planet and/or bacteria is an alien lifeform to them that doesn't exist where they live
>because bacteria are the most fluid and adaptive organisms known to man, the aliens are easy prey because of weak immunity system, and since they are living creatures themselves made of organic material, they will automatically attract bacteria which will easily infect them because no immunity (look up how native indians suffered massive epidemics through bacteria brought by European Conquestadors who had immunity to the diseases)
>>79486132
This. Story, characters, everything else was complete garbage. The depiction of aliens as super-efficent resource harvesters was great, though.
Honorable mention to The Fourth Kind, as well. Story not so great and, although the alien concept wasn't anything new, the execution was spooky as fuck.
The invaders from mars alien always looks super interesting to me I think just because it was basically like a giant brain
pls no 50s-60s trashshite with giant-brain aliens and saucers, we're past kiddie stories.
The aliens from signs still spook me to this day.
Especially the cut material and ideas that you can find on the DVD special features (they could become almost completely invisible in one iteration.). And those fucking clicky clicky noises

Monsters was actually really, really good for a low budget sci fi film. The idea that some random extraplanetary/galactic lifeforms found their way to earth via satellite and become a serious threat but one that humanity in that specific region learns to live around is neat.

It must have been a real bitch for those aliens to first travel through space. They're natural environment is 1000 times more pressurized than ours. We might as well already be living in a vacuum relative to what they had to bring up into space.
Keeping a spaceship pressurized with just 1 atm is hard enough. Try 1000.

Though I can't really remember what it looked like, The Alien from Super 8 always scared the shit out of me for some reason. Maybe the shit leading up to it was just the perfect mix of curiosity or fear or something but it was pretty scary on the opening night.
>>79490552
Idk what you mean but the xenomorphs in Alien are a result of the biological weapon the Engineers created combining with their DNA. Like so. Prometheus is a prequel. It shows how the xenomorphs came to be

>>79490608
These little guys? They're not so tough
>>79490686
>instead that just became their suit and they became shitty albino humanoids.
To be clear, the change in design was meant to make them the ubermensch, the perfect human form that we are descended from and a pale shadow of. They are our god, and they despise us.

I'm a big human meathead compared to them.

>>79490686
The whole human ubermensch aspect is really boring to me at this point in sci fi, having a common ancestor, separated by billions of years, mass extinctions and completely different environments does not mean that the space jockeys look like actual humans, that is beyond retarded, sure they could look somewhat similar, bipedal etc and simply seeded a planet but it's clear that that they were pushing the idea that humans and space jockeys are very closely related.

>>79487838

>>79488572
Based of true accounts as well. Well as true a story of alien abduction you're going to get.
>>79491231
Spoilersthe Speaker of the Dead series ends with the revelation that the planet the three books took place on was engineered by race that communicates via chemicals and if I remember correctly it was either implied or outright stated that they were a sentient race of viruses. The first time they met humanity they met a small human scout ship. They radioed the chemical blueprint for heroine and moved their own ship to intercept the humans, but were seemingly surprised when the humans moved away and didn't let the intercept happen. The aliens obviously just assumed radioing a chemical meant the receiving end immediately injected that chemical into themselves, implying that's the only way they know how to communicate. They didn't reveal however whether making the human crew feel happy with a dose of heroine was either a standard greeting or a means of incapacitating them.
>>79491414
>Based of true accounts as well.
Not really. Even the dude whos story it was based on said the movie was like 95% bullshit.
Best design ever imho, alongside the Xenomorph
>>79487697
True reason? It's because Sci-Fi reflects the public fears. In the old War of the Worlds the Aliens represented the Russians, being faceless, merciless, relentless invaders. In the latest movie it was to reflect the fear of terrorist attacks, the Aliens attack buried from within our civilisation amongst us.

I genreally fin this idea fine and pretty fun. I'd like to believe Shamalayabingdong had that idea.
But the thing about Signs is - the movie is mostly a story about crisis of faith, not ayyliums.
The main thing about invaders is that everyone in this movie assume they're something else. From "russians", through aliens or demons, to some prankster kids. Everyone saw what they wanted to see.

Yep! Me and my brother used to watch that movie religiously growing up. We made fun of it but also thouroughly enjoyed it. I suggest you guys watch the 50s WotW.
>that scene where the lady flashes the light on the alien.
Used to scare me as a kid, now its almost laughable. Still good though.
not a movie but..

I like Speaker more than Ender's
The third book was a fucking slog though, I don't know how I finished it. It's like moonshine.

>Hearing that sound might mean that at any moment your body will be instantly incinerated before you even know what's going on.
or it could also mean you might be dragged out into a field by some giant machine and have all your blood and organs sucked out of your body through a tube that was impaled into your back

Like other people have said, I've definitely seen this film but I don't remember jack shit about it. I think MAYBE there's a part in an underground parking garage with an alien trying to kill them or something? I don't know.

this shit fucking traumatized me as a kid, I used to have a panic attack whenever I heard anything from it
>>79486471
That really was a greatly undderrated movie with a lot of iconic scenes. All those empty clothes raining down...
objectively the best sci-fi movie ever made
Need more movies that give comfy feel of apocalypse

this, it's the only time H.P Lovecraft manage to create something that was genuinely as unfathomable and impossible as it's described as.

That's my favorite way to do ayylmaos

Is that the dead hexagonal alien they find?
Always had trouble picturing how it looked, based solely on the description.

>Honorable mention to The Fourth Kind
Fuck I loved The Fourth Kind. I normally hate found footage movies, but that movie was perfectly eerie. I had chills at the partduring the hypnosis where the guy says "its not an owl"and the movie left me wanting more with how they played recordings of people reporting UFO sightings over the end credits.
I really want a game with that kind of atmosphere and mystery to it, related to Aliens.
I had hopes that The Bureau: XCOM Declassified would be that game, but I was so very disappointed.
