However, they instead seem to be copying certain scenes and not others, which ruins the context of said scenes. The original anime looks good because it all follows the same aesthetic. This movie, however, is just mashing them together with a shit directed holywood action filick

I apologize for watching this crappy adaptation version of a superior animation that surpasses even the top quality cg avaiolable today, this looks like some tv shit not even netflix tier
>>
this is not faithful to the anime desu, dunno why people are saying that
in fact it looks like dogshit if you're comparing it to the original, but only because the original looks so amazing (see: much better color palette, more attention to detail, non-butchered version of the song)

but it's not bad for a modern sci-fi flick, I'm still generally interested in the movie, just not as a GITS adaptation.
I'm approaching it as just another cyberpunk blockbuster that happens to be inspired by GITS and from that angle it looks pretty good.
>>
>>79461540
>shot for shot with the anime
Except for the lighting. Which is fucking absent.
>>
>>79462985
Prepare to be disappointed.
>>
>>79463849
actually I think the main reason this scene looks bad is because they didn't want to blow enough budget on it. look at the absurd amount of darkness and shadows and lack of detail, that isn't good cgi by any means.
darkness/blur/shadows = hiding the lack of time spent on details in the scene

but if we look at some of the other trailers from the film, like the shots of the city, there is a lot more detail and clearly more budget/time went into those scenes.

my question is why they chose to skimp the budget on the most iconic scene in movie
>>
>>79465043
>my question is why they chose to skimp the budget on the most iconic scene in movie
Because the only people that will notice are the weebs, and they are going to watch it anyway.
>>
>>79465097
And they are going to be disappointed regardless
>>
>>79465165
yep, trying to satisfy weebs is like having Marvel make a DC movie

there's nothing you can do that won't make them spaz out in an autistic rage
>>
>>79465165
Yeah, but hollywood doesn't care, as long as they watch it.
>>
>>79465186
All they would really need to do is justice to a handful of iconic scenes and not butcher any of the character designs.
That's literally it, but there's never been an anime-adapted film to do it for some reason.

Shelling scene, chase scene, tank scene. That's it. Everything else would be forgiven as acceptable Hollywood sci-fi as long as it didn't do anything outlandishly retarded or laughably horrible.

The reason it's never been done is because appealing to fans gains them literally nothing. All they get by ignoring fans is some negative reviews, which they can brush off like piss on their leg.

Imagine being the Puppet Master in that scene and having to be all like "damn, Motoko Kusanagi, you fuckin' fine, all sexy with your flabby body and horrific androgynous monster face. I would totally merge my consciousness with you, both my ghost and the real me." when all he really wants to do is hack another loli sexbot in the red light district. Like seriously imagine having to be the Puppet Master and not only sit in that chair while Kusanagi flaunts her disgusting body in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing her stretchmarks and leathery skin, and just sit there, take after take, hour after hour, while she perfected that stance. Not only having to tolerate her monstrous fucking visage but her haughty attitude as everyone on set tells her she's STILL GOT IT and DAMN, KUSANAGI LOOKS LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to sit there and watch her mannish fucking gremlin face contort into types of grimaces you didn't even know existed before that day. You've been hacking nothing but a healthy diet of foreign diplomats and politicians and later Section 9 staff for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in Section 6. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on her dimpled stomach as she sucks it in to writhe it suggestively at you, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get paid to sit there and merge with her "statuesque (for that is what she calls herself)" beauty, the beauty she worked so hard for with personal trainers in the previous months. And then the Minister of Foreign Affairs calls for another hacking, and you know you could kill every single person in this room before the cyberpolice could shut you down, but you sit there and endure, because you're the fucking Puppet Master. You're not going to lose your future ghost over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.
>>
>>79465592

>>79465592
It was still good overall though.
The point is, they're trying to imitate the good parts of the anime movie, without understanding what made them good. Like africans trying to make airplanes by making something in the shape of an airplane without understanding the mechanics. They don't seem to get why the anime movie was good, so they're taking the favorite scenes of fans and splicing them in thinking it will automatically make it good.

Take the breaking-through-glass scene. In the original, she jumps down, naked. She is naked because that's the only way the camo works (I believe it was part of her cyborg body's skin though I may be mistaken)
Suddenly, there's a single gunshot, a guy's head explodes everywhere. The police riddle the window with bullets, but all they see is the Major falling as she disappears back into the city. It's significant because it shows her surgical precision and stealth in one very quick scene. One moment, the man's alive, the next, his head has been blown off. It's brutal, but it's very precise and efficient.

Now, examine the scene from the trailer, which copies it. She's not naked. Instead its some weird body suit thing. If she doesn't need to be naked to use the camo, why not use something that resembles tactical clothes, like in SAC?
She drops from the building the same, but instead of wiping out the target with a single bullet as she passes, she jumps through the window (fully visible and not camoflaged) and starts shooting while jumping off the walls. Why? because it looks stylish. There's no precision to it, no suspense. It's just "oh she's running on walls, its so cool like the matrix!"
It shares the same elements: the window breaking, the drop, the nakedness, but it fails to capture what made the original anime scene good.

These live action remakes of animated movies doesn't interest me. An obviously big element of why these classic animated films are so cherish is the art style and animation, and its integral to the tone of the film. It also dictates the pacing and flow of the narrative. Ghost in the Shell isn't just good for its script and storyboard but the overall presentation of that story.

These live action films look immensely dull in comparison and its really a kick in the face to the original source material when they think the stories would improve if they make it into live action.

The original scene is vastly better, >>79467551
Pointed out most of the reasons.

>>79467884
The original uses an ancient Bulgarian wedding chant as sung by a bunch of Japanese women to symbolize the marriage of man and machine.

The original has Motoko in fetal position, with wet hair, and visible nipples as opposed to comedy gag machinery covering them, it symbolizes birth better, fuck that dark edgy lighting, she's supposed to be in a place where people work and design shells like this constantly.

Remember kids, do not go see this movie, do give it any money, do not make anime mainstream so normies can turn it into soulless, braindead capeshit.

>>79469940
Yeah, because when I think childbirth I really think of flashing seizure lights, epic hanz zimmer wannabe music, and dry hair.

The anime symbolizes birth while still making some sense in the context of a cyborg shelling facility and being a vastly better scene overall.

Fuck that dark, bad-CG-covering lighting, some poor bastard is gonna trip and fall into the cyber goo.

Flying cars are not going to happen, anon, they're too much hassle for a gimmick.

And I'm pretty sure it's simply magnetic force, not some crazy anti-gravity system that could make cars fly effectively.

Looks cool!

I thought I recognized some of the scenes from the trailer. It's been so long since I've seen the series and even longer for the movie.
>>
>>79471396
Are you implying it wasn't?
>>
ScarJo is so fucking miscast. This was pretty well done, which makes it even worse that it's her playing this fucking role with her goofy face and CGI body.
>>
I didn't know they were using Kawaii's OST.
>>
>>79461200
what a talentless hack

Shot for shot with the anime? What a fucking waste.

what did /tv/ think about the new trailer?
spider tank will be in it but it's gonna be an action scene, it won't have the same feeling to it as the original. but overall it doesn't look that bad

Actually most scenes look like they need more budget and better cinematography.

>That's the whole appeal of the original movie.

That's not the gritty gunfights and tank fight.

There is nothing faithful about this adaptation, scenes are copied with different context and way, way worse cinematography. Just look at>>79471975

wait. if it's a remake why would they keep the silly asian squealing? shouldn't they try to improve it for the taste of western audiences?

So they spent all that time and money making a scene where you can't even tell what you're seeing half the time? That's worse
>>
>>79461200
Why'd they switch into Innocence's theme all of a sudden? Shit was jarring as fuck.
>>
>>79471975
some of those aren't bad at all.
The ones with invisible Major actually look pretty great

Nice job missing the point of the film, buckaroo.

Don't be dissing Marty, man.
>>
>>79472631
How? Everything is shot with low contrast, bad camera angle and focal length, and random background lights that add nothing to the scene.
>>
>>79473022
You don't know what you are talking about. And you probably can't do any better.
>>
>>79472488
Maybe wait till the actual film comes out and try not to base your scant opinion on pre-release footage.

I get the feeling this movie is going to end up like the Total Recall remake. Stylish with good effects and action, but none of the charm or heart of the original.
>>
>>79461200
looks like it will be a nightmare to watch in the cinema with that loud music.
