>Judith was last seen riding her bike on the morning of July 25, 1988.[3] That evening, József shot her in the head while she was sleeping, and then murdered Maria.[5] He spent the next two days wandering around the house,[3] and said during a phone conversation with Judith's agent the next night that he intended to move out for good, and just needed time to "say goodbye to my little girl."[1] He then poured gasoline on the bodies and set them on fire.[9] After incinerating the bodies, he went to the garage and shot himself in the head with a .32 caliber pistol.[10][11] On August 9, 1988, Judith and Maria were interred at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.

I feel like Don Bluth movies always had that special kind of feel that you most likely will feel the same way about them when you watch them again but in an older age. Even the shitty ones.

I still wish he dropped the baby talking animal stuff and did films with the same style of Space Ace and Dragon's Lair earlier, maybe he would've kept going if Fox didn't completely fuck up Titan AE, but we'll never know.

Maybe Dragon's Lair will be picked up and be a hit.

Agreed, Don and Goldman;s artistic style and direction always had something almost uncanny about it, something supernatural even. I don't know if it was the colors, effects, or a combination of both. The music always had something to do with it. As for the future of the medium? I hope as much as the next fan of Don's that Dragon's Lair really takes off and brings back these magical moments in animation.

>>
>>79407934
3D is more expensive anyways, And no one tries to have a style on their movies anymore, it's all cutesy gum bouncy Disney shit lacking any real substance, it's taking surprisingly long for the 3D age equivalents like Ralph Bakshi, Don Bluth or 70's Nelvana to show up already.

By the way, people forgot animation can be scary/emotional/effective once again.

Oh man you got me started at Ralph Bashki. Talk about the definition of unappreciated animation, abet adult and lackluster for the majority of audiences at the time, I always saw "Wizards" as potentially an post-apocalyptic lotr equivalent. Indeed the lore behind wizards is a bit shallow and satirical, but the thematic of it could really work if someone could write up a good script and with Bashki behind the scenes, so that the trippy imagery and 60's alternative makes it in, completing the adaptation. Thinking about the sheer scope of it all, with LOTR sized battles between fantasy races, but with tanks and machine guns really gets my imagination soaring. Yeah, the 3D animations needs to take a backseat for a while honestly, so that 2D as a whole can be appreciated again with a new audience as well as bringing back the old timers.

Wizards is case in point, Bakshi's true tribute to Tolkien, he only got to make LOTR afterwards because it was either that or United Artists would do John Boorman's clusterfuck.

I'm completely fine with the film the way it is, thing is about Bakshi is that unlike literally everyone one that does ''adult'' animation he understood that he needed substance more than pretty animation or budget, which makes me wonder why it's taking so long for a proper 3D R-rated animated film that isn't a shitty brain-dead stoner comedy.

My best guess is that filmakers and directors in general are simply filming in response to newer audiences and whats in demand. having a movie developed in response to the nostalgia factor in older audiences just isn't attracting anybody because they aren't convinced that such projects would bring any definite revenue to back future projects. That brings me back to the point you made earlier. Don Bluth and Gary Goldman's "Dragon's Lair" may be one of the last chances we will get to grasp audiences back and fund more 2D animation. A lot rides on it, and even if it doesn't do well? We will at least have a last hurrah and be able to enjoy animated kino one last time from these legendary animators.

>>
>>79410281
Well there's a difference between a mini-doc and what I had in mind

Instead of saying ''several scenes have been cut'' and rolling along I'd just show these deleted scenes and compare stuff, I didn't believe it at first, but MGM did have most of Pebble and the Penguin's scenes re-shot in Hungary with different colors, the reason is beyond me, but it's true if you compare a few scenes of the original trailer with the final film.

Then there's stuff with Rock a Doodle, the missing 20 minutes of footage of Land Before Time, the extended bits of Secret of NIMH, it goes on.

Oh yeah I'm aware of the missing footage. But what baffles me the most is the Hell scene from All Dogs go to Heaven. Don stated multiple times that he wouldn't release it, even after all the new editions of the film. It baffles me frankly, as if he had something to hide, whether the animation in it was sub-par, or some other personal reason. Maybe Don Bluth's Mormon background had something to do with it.

Come to think of it, how many animated films are there where a Director's Cut/Extended version did re-surface or was even restored and given a wide release? The most recent example is The Thief, but the Academy really just scanned an old worn and badly degraded copy of the Workprint when again, Disney most likely owns most of the material, plus the alternate cuts exist.

it if there's a demand, it's not like the original cut of Star Wars either where George Lucas would have them hidden/eradicated while he's still alive.

In the context of Star Wars, a reason was somewhat given. George Lucas didn't state it but he implied it heavily when he said that the new editions of the original Star Wars films are what he had originally envisioned, and that the original version of the movie was unnecessary in its entirety in his eyes, but there were many even back then that saw through this excuse and it became apparent that he was in fact, ashamed of his original direction for the films, and that he wanted to hide it instead of allowing others to study his work. As for other films that had abrupt cuts and edited out entire scenes? Right now I am a bit drunk and I cannot bring up much as of right now, but perhaps in a sober thread yeah? hehe

Back then no one gave two fucks about Disney and what they were doing so people were making animated movies based on the core factors of what made a movie good unlike nowadays, where everything is bouncy CGI with shallow stories for the self-pity and ''surprisingly adult'' audience and a sickening amount of quips, completely censored and sterile violence/drama for the general crowd.

the 90's were the death knell for traditional animation as an adult medium. Shit like Heavy Metal 2000 and Titan A.E. did nothing but prove that there wasn't really a reason to try anymore in that regard. not hating on Titan A.E. but it didn't really help anything. The closest we'll get to adult 2d animation is a rick and morty movie MAYBE if we play our cards right and that doesn't even sound worth it.
