RECENT NEWS!
> Paramount cancels Friday the 13th reboot so the rights will revert to Warner Bros soon. Reason for such is likely the box office failure of Rings.
> The also indefinitely postponed the World War Z sequel.

> The Halloween reboot is back on track again as Pineapple Express's David Gordon Green will direct and write it, co writing will be by Danny Mcbride.
> Green has done dreck like The Sitter and apparently awesome work like pic related so we shall see.
> Mcbride stated they intend to be taking it dead seriously and that "no one will be laughing".

I watched this after seeing it mentioned in another horror thread. I thought it was going to be about depression but it's just another movie about schizophrenia. It was pretty much just Take Shelter meets Donnie Darko but with really weird acting and strange dialogue. In fact, the acting was probably the creepiest part of the film and it was probably completely unintentional.

The ending scene was sick though. It's the first good ending to a movie that I've seen for an incredibly long time, and it was refreshing after coming from the pile of shit that was The VVitch. I'll rate it good enough/10.

The sound design was pretty good and it reminded me of Eraserhead, so I guess I can see why the other dude mentioned depression with regard to this movie.

I watched this a few days ago. Usually I don't really like asian movies - especially asian horrormovies - but this one was recommended by a trusted source of mine so I gave it a shot. It's very good. Despite the enormous length of 156 minutes its has no difficulties in pacing - propelling fast and slowing down at the right moments. The horror elements are rare but executed well and really put you in a mode of constant excitement.

Watch it but skip all trailers.
>>
>>79401701
Oh yeah I forgot this movie. I liked it okay actually. I don't know, honestly anything other than Rob Zombie would be welcome for the franchise. I just wish for ONCE they would stick to the anthology stories on Halloween idea. I really don't think we need 6 more Michael Myers movies.
>>
>>79404061
I think they a good job with it despite obvious budgetary limitations. The gullet of the being was kind of chintzy looking but by then they had done a good enough job with set up it didn't bother me.

Also, if anyone wants to see a really weird horror movie check out Society. That's a movie where I think a remake could be a good thing.

Came here to post this, already had the rest of this typed up before I saw this image.
The Borderlands reminded me that found footage can make for a great movie if done well. It's about a small team of two priests and an agnostic tech guy who are investigating a claims of a religious miracle out in a sleepy little English town.
It's very creepy and has scenes that will stay with you. The found footage stuff is done with headsets and fixed cameras so it's not even shakycam most of the time. I highly recommend it.

It's more of an action-adventure movie with horror themes, but Stake Land was a really cool movie I saw lately. It's about the post-vampire apocalypse, and a gruff older guy named Mister and his young protege are travelling north to find a particular community to live in.
On the way they have run-ins with not only vampires, but a dangerous religious cult that controls a lot of territory they have to pass through.

Black Mountain Side (pic related) is a neato Canadian movie that was clearly inspired by The Thing. It's about a group of archaelogists and their native helpers that have unearthed a strange and seemingly anachronistic structure near their dig site.
As I'm sure you can guess, strange things start to occur. If you need some convincing, one of the big early developments is one morning, all the natives are gone. They track their footprints, but they're heading north. The only thing north is mountains and snow, certain death.
Good movie, give it a go lads.

Just finished it, it wasn't kino. Maybe a 6/10 at best. It was just a bunch of random stuff, even the octopus cell thing just seemed to be thrown in for no reason (or maybe done to draw a parallel to The Thing).

It was an interesting concept, but the God had no real motivation. The movie tried to get away with it by saying "You wouldn't understand". In The Thing, you understood what was happening. The thing was trying to survive and infect everyone. The deer God thing never explained shit and the reason for that was probably because the writers themselves didn't have a reason, they just wanted to make a movie like The Thing.

I watched Don't Breathe last night and found it entertaining enough.

It felt more like a thriller with horror elements than a horror movie though, but honestly that's not the worst genre horror can buddy-up with.

Also the leading girl was cute.

The only criticism I had was that the movie could have ended a few times before it actually did and it would have left me just as satisfied as the actual ending.

Okay, this is a one in a million shot here, but does this poor description of a scene from what I can only assume to have been a horror movie I saw as a child ring any bells? I probably saw it in the mid to late nineties and this is all I can remember about it.

Basically we see a scene in which (I think) a character is trapped in a desolate hellscape with a reddish hue. A deformed looking demon(?) thing is crawling out from a barrel towards the character. The barrel may have been the large blue kind that you would typically see industrial chemicals stored inside, and the hellscape may have been located behind a door within a mansion or facility of some kind that acted as a portal.

I also vaguely recall diminutive midget type creatures, but that may not be related.

This may not have been from a horror movie at all, but I honestly can't remember and it's been bugging me for almost twenty years.

Candyman is mad underappreciated honestly, not necessarily the absolute scariest but the atmosphere, the scenery, the soundtrack, sound design, camera work and acting are top fucking notch, it's just joy to watch every time.

Looks like a slasher flick like I know what you did last summer or scream

Not really a horror movie honestly
And you are a huge pleb, the movie is great
>>
>/tv/ recommends horror
>its 70s/80s trash with terrible effects that they only like because of a severe nostalgia filter

dont take any horror recommendations here pre 1990s
specifically because of all the manchildren
>>
>>79424333
This looks like like a shitpost. Name names of this 'trash' for confirmation
>>
>>79424248
It's pretty good
It's about journalist researching urban legends and he learns about 'Candyman', urban legend from poor neighborhoods of Chicago
Supernatural shit starts to occur and the girls research becomes more intense as she tries to figure out what the fuck is going on
Worth it for the visuals alone imo
>>
>>79424333

dontcha know movies last only few years??
shit from 2010 is old as fuck right now
>>
>>79424216

>>79424399
And to add to that: It basically revisions poor ass chicago projects as vicotrian gothic castles and palaces akin to Dracula in a way. And Tony Todd does excellent job as the Candyman, his voice is something else.

This. Nice atmosphere and the voice of the Wendigo was terrific but the the ending is just a cheap copout that killed the movie.

I watched Harbinger Down last night and was pretty disappointed. Maybe I was expecting too much, but it felt like it wasnt about the monster all that much, which was pretty lame to begin with.

don't watch the second one though jesus christ did that fuck up the first one

also The Mist was good but i don't know what to think about that ending
>>

Yeah kinda weird one, really didn't understand what the hype was about. I was hoping it would actually be about Occult but it was basically just torture porn
But lot of foreign horror movies get 'free' passes or at least even very mediocre ones are recommended more eagerly
>>

Watched it yesterday thanks to someone on here. I liked it a lot. Don't know why it's labeled horror though. Drama/psychological thriller is more suiting.

One of the more disappointing movies I've seen. Not because it was super terrible, it just took its premise in the least interesting direction possible.

6/10
>>
>>79425927
I felt very oppositely. It changed directions and it was fantastic there. Very cold horror.
One of the best of the decade.
>>
>>79424140
eraserhead was pretty god damn unsettling.
>>
>>79425876
it's the first successful christmas horror movie that's actually a christmas movie, not just one that happens to take place on christmas. it has a strong point of view, it has visual style, it successfully juggles humor and camp with numerous genuinely unsettling scenes. the reveal that Krampus is some kind of alien horror wearing santa's flayed skin is possibly the best horror movie moment of the last decade. yes, Krampus is great
>>

in regards to horror? alien. the thing is action sci fi with a side of horror.

There are no 2 boys, the other one is his imaginary friend/dead brother/ghost in the house/2nd personality
How close did I get?

>>
>>79425840

>>
>>79426189
No, I don't like torture porn as a genre, which the film isn't.
And I didn't find it as a cliched twist, nor >le twist xd is a factor to be considered majorly except for plebs.
>>
The Eyes of My Mother. Fantastic movie, one of my recent favourites.
>>
>>79426189
god this is fucking reductive and plain wrong
>>
>>79426155
The second one. It's blazingly obvious the whole time but the movie does a frustrating amount of building up to the big reveal.

But the existence of an easily guessed twist bothered me less than the fact that it's so extraneous to what's truly creepy about the movie: the plastic surgery and alienation. But that's really just a plot device.

If you think Drive is a meme, or that being memed into watching a film by /tv/ is even a real thing, you're probably in for disappointment. It's a very peculiar, different kind of horror film.
>>
>>79401019

seen as a kid, too. I know the Stephen King short story and to be honest this is one of those rare cases the movie is better. The angle of the bad journalism (is a matter of ethic in supernatural events journalism, after all) is cool, the hellish scene is classic but well executed, the characters are obviously unlikeable but well made, the take on the "flyer" is an interesting mix of classic and new.
