When the Doctor says "Make this the foundation of your society…", I'm pretty sure that he (and, out-of-universe, RTD) is directly disagreeing with you.

Which means that I can steal anything I think might have been stolen by a previous owner (One), trick aliens into attacking Earth for no reason so I can exterminate their species (Four), force everyone to be nice to my really annoying friend (Five), take all the coke (Eleven), and blow up my home planet (Eight).

1.Patterson Joseph

Sorry I meant there is no actual McCoy. There was a bit of a meme where an anon insisted there was no McCoy in one of the christmas cards, when one was clearly visible. I didn't mean that it was meme free. Sorry. English, how does it work.
Id still like to see the spot the stalker meme fulfilled whether it be madam or adam, if you get around to it, no worries.

The thing about this is that it was beautiful, and fun, and happy, and full of levity yet still sprinkled with drama. It was FUN. It had love. It tried something new for Doctor Who.

Doctor who is fucking garbage.
It can tell any story in all of time and space and it always ends up a shitty looking celebration of mediocrity.
It's a predictable, safe formulaic children's show where the Le wacky man saves the day with some 'witty' banter and a 'clever' scheme.
The Doctor never goes anywhere in his development, just going from dark to light or dark to light depending on the incarnation.
It has no love for science or history, it just boils everything down for lowest common denominator. It's a waste of time and effort,
why don't you losers mature and watch some grown up television for a change.
You shouldn't watch doctor who unless it's with your own children but I really don't want you plebs procreating.
>>
>>79390828
I think Supernatural would be worse if it weren't for the fact that the cast and creators directly interact with the fandom in the show and at cons and keep them on a leash that way.

As it stands, I think Whovians (god, even that name, ugh) and Supernatural fans compete for last place. Supernatural fans are more inclined to do cringey shit in public, but whovians have this terrible unwarranted sense of self-importance. "Hurr hurr, I bet you haven't heard of MY favorite tv show. It's quiiiiiiirky and BRIIIIIITISH, damn I'm so original"

Plus they will shell out millions of dollars for anything that vaguely resembles a telephone box or has some dumb played-out quote on it, like the timey-wimey thing.

Seh doesn't actually kill teh karkus, because humiliate teh karkus and make ihm switch sides is more useful and fun. (Source: teh mind robert)

Seh doesn't afraid of anything (Source: teh wheel in space) except that one time seh does afraid of being stuck alone in a dark room and not knowing how seh got there (just like Amy) but the BBC deleted that episode because they were afraid seh would kill them. (Source: none, that's the point.)

You probably would have liked Wilderness Era fandom better.

Most of the writers directly interacted with the fandom at cons and online, and would call them on being stupid.

"Whovian" was a good way to say "I'm an American fan and I've never met a British person." (Or "I'm pretending not to be a real fan and I think this will work even though I just wrote a Decalog story for Virgin and have mentioned my DWM collection online", but that's a special case.)

People were ashamed to admit they were fans instead of being hipsters about it.

And there were no newfag idiots buying $5000 limited-editing pewter mugs that said "What's the point of being grown-up if you can't be childish sometimes."

Too bad you weren't cool enough to be there then. :P

Didn't that happen to Carl in Aqua Teen Hunger Force?

I forget which robot. I keep thinking Rabbot, but I'm pretty sure he's the one who jumped up and down on Carl's car, not the one who tore the roof off.

Also, I'm not sure it cuts back to show the mangled car later; that happened in the one where the roof got ripped off in a demolition derby off-screen.

Anyway, while I could see mixing up Master Shake with early Colin Baker, I'm not sure how you could confuse either Meatwad or Frylock for Peri.

New to the show, I have to say though, I hate this fandom, I've never seen such toxic moaners who over criticize everything about the show, there is literally nothing positive on the shows official Facebook page where the majority of fans lurk, all moaning about Capaldi, bring back David Tennant, how bad the writing and Moffat is, etc. I get the impression the fans almost hate the show. I'm quite bewildered by it desu.
>>
>>79419590
>I hate this fandom
/who/'s alright thought right? I'd even say 'we' have a love/hate relationship with the show, so it doesn't come unscathed by 'us'. Everything I've seen on facebook regarding anything seems pretty toxic to me, but what do I know? I would think that most of those you see bitching about it other places barely watch the show at all anymore, and if they do it's in spite of it and themselves. I guess it gives people something to do, but they miss one of the great things about the show. It's always changing, trying on different genres, different angles, writing styles, view points. If you don't like the show as it is currently, just wait a couple of years for it to regenerate itself and you get yet another 'new' iteration.

>>
>>79419757
Doctor Who having an annoying fandom is inevitable. People get into the show because it is, quite intentionally, a wildly accessible family show. And there's two ways they can go from there.

For some fans, after a few years, even if they weren't kids when they originally got into it, they start to get embarrassed at liking a kiddie show and insisting it needs to be deeper or darker or "more adult" and the current year sucks because it's not doing that, even though the years they liked didn't do that either, because the show can never do that.

For the fans who don't do that, it invariably instead becomes a pure nostalgia thing. They want the show to be the way it was their first year forever. Which is another thing the show can never do. unless you think watching an aged William Russell drag William Hartnell's corpse around in a studio that no longer exists would be fun TV.
>>
>>79419590
>Potential newbie is thinking of watching Doctor Who for the first time

>>

>>
>>79419981
PS, the ones who stick around? We're not any better, we just have both problems balanced against each other exactly right so that we end up hating our own tendency to hate our favorite show more than we hate the show itself.
>>
>>79419590
You must understand that when it comes to Doctor Who the 'fandom' is quite split between those that want it to be like RTD Who forever and those that want it to maybe indulge in the classic series and have more of a sci fi edginess. There's arguments for both sides.

but Moffat Who is superior to RTD Who in almost every way imaginable

It's a fascinatingly paradoxically toxic fandom, second only to Star Wars probably. The show inspires such a deeply autistic and obsessive love in its fans that when it's doing something they don't approve of that love can quickly turn to (what reads to the untrained eye) as extremely passionate hatred. If you've been a fan for awhile, it's business as usual.

It does suck when they cast a Doctor you just can't get into. Probably best to back away quietly from the show for three years but invariably you end up watching it and shitting all over it instead.

I'm surely at the nostalgia end of the spectrum however I think there's nothing wrong with it going a little grimdark or adult for the sake of freshness. I think DW has a big enough universe to fulfill all that. Not concurrently of course. There's really not been a time where I have hated the show. Nothing has ever happened on screen that warranted more than an eye roll. I've got alot of time/money invested/wasted in damned doctor who and yet I will never understand how some people could get so upset over a children's show.
Also I could go for a weekend at bernies series with chatterton and hartnell

Pastiche/homage is his gimmick so I'd expect something akin to that.

This is just saying words, Cloister. This doesn't help at all. It just feels like you're putting words behind others. Almost in an attempt to be even less clear than Gatiss.

Not really my intention but I could see that, conceded. My apologies Anon;/who/. I think I kind of got a vague picture of what he might describing er it's aesthetic, maybe? It is an incredibly hard statement to quantify.
I feel like I could like Gatiss, like it might be nice to hear him talk and bullshit about DW. I found his history of horror docs pretty interesting. I kind of enjoy seeing elements of his inspirations, like the gothic sort of horror in crimson in series 7. His reliance on pastiche and nods to genres are almost tarrentino-esque and often comes off even more hack-y.
