A transgender person is someone whose internal gender identity (in their brain) is different to the one they were assigned at birth. This mismatch can cause many transgender people to become extremely depressed, even suicidal. Many who are like this seek to transition to their real gender, and in many places (including USA) are subject to harsh treatment. Many end up being homeless, even if they are highly skilled, because they are fired from their job as a result of discrimination, or they are not hired for the same reason. They also regularly face abandonment by family and friends, in addition to being turned down from housing opportunities by transphobic landlords who turn them away. Transgender people are among some of the most vulnerable people on earth, particularly trans women. Transgender people are more likely to commit suicide than almost any other group of people, precisely because of how hostile the world is to trans people.

Lena Dunham is a genuinely good writer and director. Girls is the best show of our generation and will be up there with the sopranos, mad men and the wire once people learn to seperate Lena Dunham as a person from the work she's done.

I'm a fan of films where nothing happens, but literally nothing happens in that movie and there's little to no tension.

It doesn't advance from its initial premise (she's tense and paranoid) and doesn't explore it from any unique point of view. It's a damp squib of a Persona knock-off.

Sophia Takal also did a slightly better version of it with Always Shine. She's an underrated mumblecore director.

I feel like most people would be into Girls if they didn't know Lena outside of her work.

The entire show is about how annoying, naive and arrogant she is as someone exploring feminism and autobiographical writing and it results in some really great cringe comedy at her expense.

I mean it's a pretty overt anti-metropolitan elite showcase.

I wasn't questioning the 'why' again from you, but on the matter, being one location( and it isn't) and having no character development( and it does) aren't guaranteed reasons to something to be good, or in their absence, to be bad. And it doesn't have to transcend Persona either, almost nothing does. It seems you're demanding wrong things.
I took it as an study of near-insanity with very good acting. The exploration is on a settled note, but that was its proposal.

the central location is the cabin house. everything else is tertiary to it and revolves around it. For all intents and purposes it's a one-location film the same way Digging for Fire or Joshy or The One I Love is.

The character development is a slow ramp of madness of Moss's character and that's it. We know from the beginning she's unhinged. By the end we know... she's even more unhinged. Wow. great character development there.

The only demand I placed upon it was for it to be worth the runtime. With that, it failed.

If you're going to ape Persona or Polanski, don't bother if you're not going to do something with it.

Again, Always Shine explores the same trope and is very slightly better (though in my estimation still not all that great) because the madness is weaved into the very logic of the piece by the end.

Sophia Takal actually tried to take it somewhere.
>>
>>79401190
I hope you are. The distance between the original and all the others is immense
