Lars is a pretentious hack who does some scheming as always.
Kirk is like a poodle who just randomly walks through the frame.
Bob Rock is a sleazy used car salesman.
Bill Cosby Sweater therapistman is Bill Cosby Sweater therapistman.
Dave Mustaine is an asshole but in this he's just sort of pathetic and I feel kind of bad for him.
Jason seems like a genuinely nice guy who cares about music and not much else.

Kirk is best character. He just wants to surf and play guitar while watching Universal monster movies.

Load and Reload are actually much better than Black Album. I love the blousey "Southern Metal" style they used, James' vocals were great and some solos were kickass. Pretty unique body of work right there. They actually TRULY evolved with those two albums and made something different, meanwhile Slayer, Sepultura and Megadeth all kept making shit edgelord metal and never managed to put more than 5K butts in seats. Garage Inc. is a fantastic cover album and I always listen to it when I BBQ during hot summer days.

So Saint Anger is a bad album? Thats all? Because yeah, most people think it is.

FACTS: Load is a great alternative rock album and was only despised by metal heads who cant comprehend anything beyond metal.

And Justice for All is a metal masterpiece and megadeth will never ever release something like that.

The black album is great. Bob Rock really helped Metallica evolve into the right direction after they peaked the metal genre with AJFA. Frankly after AJFA, there wasnt anything else to do there. His only mistake is Saint Anger.

St Anger would be a good album if the songs were half as long (they're pointlessly long, just repeating the same two sections; at least the long songs from Ride to Justice had a lot of variety to justify the lenght) and ANYONE would've told Lars to fuck off with that snare. The rehearsal dvd where Lars plays with a proper kit sounds so much better it's ridiculous. They should've just mastered it and released that instead.

What metal (and to some extent rock) music fans don't understand is (because most of them are young) that people can change as they grow old, and the musician might not want to play the same type of shit they've played 20 years ago. It's best to let bands that we like to organically evolve their music the best way they see fit, and not force them to rehash the same riffs for 30 fucking albums

That is true. I think Load and Reload get bad rep because they're not-metal albums from a band fucking called Metallica.

Problem is that Metallica really cares more about money so they decided to play it safe after that, giving fans "what they want". St. Anger was just shit because they made it at a shit time in their lives, should've given it another year or so after James' rehab to get back in the studio.

Metal is one of those genres where you can be complete shit as long as you do tons of coke and can play hard and fast because fans really only care about speed. Now Metallica is old and Lars can't play hard and fast and they've "evolved" to not hard and fast stuff so Lars is FUCKED but it doesn't matter because he's synonymous with the band and he can't be replaced.
>>

Can someone who has greater insight than just the doc tell me why Bob is so hated?

In the doc he seems the most likable (other than Trujillo) to me. No ego, no drama, he just wants to get some tracks laid down and when they verge into crybaby territory he tries to guide them into staying on point without getting pissy. Seems like he's doing his job as a producer pretty well.
>>
>>79392481
Most drunmers wouldnt even be able to play And justice for all from start to finish. Not even Lars these days.

He wasnt bad, he just doesnt care anymore
>>
>>79392630

From what I recall he came off as the average filthy record exe jew who just wanted to make the most sell-able/listening/profitable album to max out shekels.

Most fans of metal realize you can't make metal marketable without dumping it down for the masses, and therefore making it shit.

Of course, many people also believe Metallica was shit by then anyways, so it might not have been all his fault.

The thing about Lars is that he isn't just the drummer, but effectively the band's director. If you see the making of docus, he's ultimately in charge of arranging the songs and is there on every step of the production, calling the shots. He doesn't just sit there and play along to whatever James writes, but actively gets involved in how the songs are structured and shit.

But yeah, as a musician Lars pretty much just plays along. Unlike someone like, say, Danny Carey, who probably practices his rudiments at least two hours a day to keep himself good and in shape, Lars just gets on stage and blasts it, and what comes out comes out. There's a couple of shit fills he does (like in the pre-heavy section of One, where instead of playing a good beat he just goes SNARESNARESNARESNARESNARESNARESNARESNARE) that I'm sure have become mechanical to him because that's just how he's played it for so long. He never thinks of listening to the record or watch old concerts and see how he could make it better. He doesn't care, really; to him Metallica is the job; the drumming is just part of it.

I've met like one other bloke in my life that has the same opinion as us dude - totally agree about loving the bluesy southern metal stuff. They were at the top of their game with their technique too.

I like the last two Metallica albums, but it's a shame to see them regress so much. I liked them when they were pushing things. Even Lulu was something new. It's brave to experiment.

honestly kirk hammett is the worst part of metallica and always has been. he doesn't contribute anything worthwhile and he's a shit lead player paired with arguably the greatest rhythm player in metal. he plays the same fucking pentatonic scale on EVERY SONG. his live playing is fucking garbage. i enjoy metallica and think hardwired is a great record, as well as death magnetic, though not as good as the 1980s albums of course, but fuck as soon as i hear kirk come in i just fucking cringe. him and slash have effectively killed the wah pedal

But that's the thing: I don't think Kirk actually wrote 250 music ideas. I think he just had 250 recordings of him improvising, playing whatever was on his head at the moment, and was hoping to give James and Lars the recordings hoping they'd listen to them and find something useful (which seems consistent to J&L's method of jamming aimlessly, then looking back at what they played and start getting ideas from there). If he had written riffs, he could've gone and be like "hey, listen to this" and play it for them.

Satriani himself said that Hammet was the worst, least talented, guitarist he's ever had to teach.

I mean me and a bunch of other kids could play most of Hammet's solos at like 15 years old after playing for a year with more accuracy and clarity than he can even after playing the same fucking songs for 30 years.

I mean he should have those songs down 100% flawless every time after playing them so many times. How hard would it be for him to just sit down with a metronome a few hours a day and get all his licks down and ditch the wah pedal?

Does he even booze anymore? Can't even use being drunk on stage as an excuse.

Yep, it's really sad watching the 50+ year old assholes Kerry King and Tom Araya headbanging on the stage in front of 2,000 people on a rainy night in Seattle playing some DEATH TO KILL US ALL and SATAN RULE UNIVERSE songs from their RIPPING THROUGH HER GUTS AND THROAT 2013 album. Kerry simply plays his mean-looking guitar really fast and that's it, using the same old distortions he learned back in the 80s.

Megadeth is slightly better, but simply because they rely on social messages and war thematic which they tend to tell in a more calm, collected style.

To be honest, Slash is a lot like Kirk. They can do pentatonic scales with speed and that's about their extent of their ability. However, Slash is more creative, I think. His solos can be very melodic and have themes, as opposed to just shredding for the sake of it.

watch the Black Album documentary. Rock is a fucking cunt it. I guess he realized it at some point, and then made sure the next docs would not show him in any disreputable light.

The reason Metallica went to shit, is the Black Album tour. It was incredibly profitable. So the execs made sure it wouldn't fucking end. They visited some cities many times on the same fucking tour. Let that sink in for a second. I understand afterward they wanted nothing but to lazy it out.

They're taking the piss. It's what mates do.
>>
Why do Lars and James hate bass so much? Even when they had Cliff the bass was almost inaudible in the mixes.
>>
>>79395818
Cause metal bass mirrors the guitar 99% of the time

What's the point of the bass when you have a tuned-up rhythm guitar?
>>
>>79396010

This, just turn up the bass in the guitar channel if the bass is just gonna play what the guitar plays.

Now the Black Album, that's where the Bass rules.

Why can't /tv/ have the same quality discussion about television & film that it can about the Metallica discography?

Why is no one here derailing with Trump and cuckold spam?

Priest was in talks to record stuff with Gaga some months ago. The guy is a really big fan of gaga, and gaga of judas priest.

Do you think we could have the same type of educated discussion with Adele, Justin Bieber, Beyonce and the current rap nigger? No.

Then what makes you think that your shit modern movies deserve quality discussion? Do you want to discuss John Witch 2, the new marvel flick, the new FaF movie? Meme flicks deserve meme discussion and shitposting.

Im always up to discuss older movies anyways. Hell, yesterday I rewatched Of Mice and Men and Barry Lyndon.

With Gaga only humming the entire song? What a terrible idea.

>>79392537
He can't do a drum roll even if his life was depended on it, his drumming is the absolute basic, he's more of a producer, he can tell what sounds good and add something to it.

She could sing a verse or two.

Ok, so we can agree that this is the second best Metallica album, which one's the best and third best one though?

MoP or AJFA best. RTL prolly third but i really lik the black album

alright i went back and listened to reload twice and it's alright, it's not great, it's a good album, but load is garbage
>>
>>79396492
In terms of production, yeah, it goes like this:
>Black Album
>Load
>Kill em All
>Flemming Rasmussen Stuff
>St Anger
>ReLoad
>Death Magnetic

Haven't heard their new album
>>
>>79396494

>>
>>79396761
I feel the opposite, ReLoad has some nice songs, but overall it's all filler material, not to mention overproduced. I mean, they don't play the songs live because they can't figure out how to make them sound good.

>>79396834
As if metal wasn't fedora enough; but yeah, that's what I think.

In terms of composition:
>RTL
>AJFA
>Black Album
>Kill em All
>MoP
>Load
>Death Magnetic
>St Anger
>ReLoad
>>
>>79396958
>MoP that low
nigga what are you doing
>>
>>79397042
I think MoP borrows too much stuff from RtL, not that it is bad; but KEA, AJFA and Black Album offer more variety/originilaty.
>>
/metallica/ general on /tv/ when
>>
>>79397179
>Some Kind of Monster
>Through the Never

What are some other music kinos?
>>
>>79397253
Can we discuss through the never?

Its probably the best recorded recital ever, with quality that matches more a film than a music dvd.

But why did they ruin it with that shitty story between the songs? Should have been 100% recital. Who wrote that shit anyways? When the kid puts himself on fire it was cringeworthy
>>
>>79397317
The writing was weak, but it was something worthy of a try.

I think it was better than a forced Metallica musical.
>>
>>79386302
The best song is the last one, All Within My Hands, retard.
