Yes. It's nothing like the Godfather, it's barely a mafia movie. It uses the mob to tell a story about family, friendship, nostalgia, and the way they all crumble apart over time. It's one of the most beautiful and haunting films ever made. It's Leone's best and a masterpiece.

lol. no. the first hour was great. from the mill to the hunting to the pool scene to the wedding to the running the streets naked. i love films that flesh out characters this way not giving three shits to story structure (even though Dear Hunter really is traditionally structured). when the Nam scenes finally are thrust upon the viewer, it's shocking to see and have double the impact if the audience only knew the characters for a few brief moments.

Not him. But he's right. It has terrible pacing. Some shots are far longer than they should be. Kubrick probably thought that since the things in the shots took a lot of resources to make it should also be in the movie for a long time too. It doesn't work and never has.
