An oscar nomination isn't voted on democratically by the general public and the voting process is not subject to the will and whims of the general public, it doesn't have to reflect anyone's views on what society or culture should be
Imagine if some kids in their treehouse were voting on which girls in their class are hottest and some stranger smashed their way in and verbally and physically assaulted the kids for not voting the black girls in their class higher, that's the oscars circa the last 4/5 years

Women just aren't that interested in directing. I'm sure these studios would die to give some of their projects to female directors and get the publicity for it, but there just aren't that many of them.

I live in LA, and tons of women want to be writers and actresses, but I never meet any of them that want to be directors. Like 90% of all struggling filmmakers who make shitty short movies that I know of are men.

I'm just starting in the industry and can see that women make up a decent amount of crew, overwhelming amounts of make up and a large portion of producers/exec-producers and so on.

Women can be good directors but they usually make tiny indie movies no one sees.

Edge of Seventeen should have been nominated. I'm not even memeing.
