The problem is that Thor 2 is literally one of the worst movies ever made, so it taints the whole franchise in everyone's mind. Thor wasn't that popular to begin with, and then the second one submarined it.

Dark World got 3/10 in the test screening so they got rid of Taylor and salvaged what they could. I still think there's plenty in there to like though. It never struck me as a terrible film when I first watched it without having heard all the negative reviews and such.
