What was the last horror film you saw, and how was it?

Cannibal Apocalypse.

So before you think it's a Cannibal Holocaust knock off it's actually more interesting, it's about some Vietnam war vets who were forced to eat people while being kept prisoner by the vietcong. They inevitably go mental and start eating people when they get home and it's up to the local sheriff to stop them.

The problem? He was a pow with them and he's started to get certain urges ...

This has been one hell of a week for slasher movies. The new Friday the 13th is dead, a prequel to Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is coming out later this year, and David Gordon Green is gonna direct/co-write the new Halloween.

There have already been countless threads on this over the past few days. The acting was shit. The characters were dumb and not believable at all. Thomasin hardly makes any effort whatsoever to defend herself despite being innocent. Her only crime was hitting puberty.

When a normal person is accused of a crime that they didn't commit, they will vehemently defend themselves, not take it up the ass. The supernatural element was poorly incorporated. The brother's seizure and little soliloquy before he died was laughable. Thomasin's ultimate actions are completely unbelievable like everything else she does in the film. Satan slaughters your entire family, either directly or by inducing madness, so what do you do? Sell your soul to him for a stick of fucking butter of course.

If she's doomed to hell and knows it, and no matter what choices she makes she'll end up there, then why did she simply stand by and accept it? If you already know the consequences and are fine with them, then you can do whatever you wanted. Her choice was to stay, watch her family get killed then make a deal with the one responsible for their deaths. That points to her being fucked up in the head to begin with, which again adds to what the anon was saying, her actions are not believable at all.

She thought the twins were responsible and did try to stop the situation from getting worse.
It wasn't until Black Phillip started talking to her that she realized that she, in her own mind at least, was the cause of her family getting killed and that she was in fact going to end up in hell no matter what she did.
At that point there wasn't a whole lot she could do anymore.
And yes puritans were seriously fucked in the head by today's standards and the whole movie should be watched with that in mind which I thought was the whole point really.
Not a great horror movie but still an alright film.

i actually really enjoy this film, but believe me speaking from a professional stand point the choreography for this scene wouldn't of been much more. This was a purely director fault if anything for not trying to go the extra mile.

Not all directors are auteurs though.

Josh Stewart needs to work more.

>This was a purely director fault if anything for not trying to go the extra mile.
I beg to differ. Listening to every commentary track for the Saw films it's amazing the films come out the way they do. The directors always have bigger, more elaborate ideas for the scenes but the producers are constantly pressing forward and forcing them to move onto the other scene because they're on such tight time constraints. As someone who claims to be speaking from a "professional stand point" you don't seem to be taking any factors into consideration.

Like a sci-fi Hardy Boys misadventure with excellent lead performances. They really nailed both the main characters and the feel of a small-town. Has a lot of heart, which is important in a horror film.

I love that independent horror is embracing YA fiction. They're such a perfect match.

Prince Of Darkness
>>

Ringu is superior. It came first so you should pay respect to the piece of cinema that brought the story to the big screen first. Not only that the cursed videotape and Sadako's appearance at the end are a lot creepier. In the American version Samara looks fucking lame. Looks like a really generic typical horror movie ghost. Not to mention the shot of her hair parting and her smiling is so fucking cheesy it removes any tension or horror from the climax. Sadako's appearance in the Japanese one is great.

I went on a whim and marathon horror movies for this weekend.

Gone through

Jaws
Cannibal Holocaust
I Spit on Your Grave

Up next is

Straw Dogs
Lake Mungo
Possession
Suspiria

The penis cutting bath scene in I Spit On Your Grave still haunting me. The way he doesn't realize it happened right away then is locked in the room bleeding out was great.

The lack of seeing the shark in Jaws due to budget constraints and mechanical failure lead to some really creative edits and camera techniques. The characters were top tier, really well acted and written.

Cannibal Holocaust was a bit cheesy with its acting and social commentary but was fantastic in creating realism.

The first one is a pretty good watch just because it does have a decent twist on the home invasion genre and the ending is pretty dark.

The second one just felt like a cheap cash-in, lost a lot of magic from the first one since they just tried to do the same thing that they did in the first movie but now there's a higher body count and a bigger building.

It's great. I don't want to spoil it for you so I'm just gonna say watch it if you like slow, atmospheric horror and big twists.
>>
Of course you pick one of the shittiest horror films of recent years.

I just finished it. I was expecting a bigger twist, but the way it worked out was nice. Also is the moral of the story that Japs are the devil? I didn't follow his character well, was he also the rapist, or was there never a rape?

>Implying The Ring is not the best of all of those
>The meme that Ringu is superior

>>79327489
>This fucking faggot who says Ringu is superior because it "came first" and "Samara looked dumb in the ending scene!"

Come the fuck on, guys. The Ring is easily the best of either franchise. It is an effective, genuinely well-crafted movie that improves on Ringu in nearly every way. Literally the only issue with The Ring is Samara's crappy flickering effect and face in the final scene.

The Ring Two is a fucking abomination, though.
