That's not true, though. Happiness and Dollhouse are excellent, but they are pretty much his only good movies (with the exception of Wiener Dog, which I haven't seen yet). Palindromes has cool ideas, but is ultimately a very confused, inconsistent movie, and Dark Horse is a very lame character dramedy that fails mostly because the central character is bland as fuck.

Really? I mean, the living-at-home-at-an-advanced-age aspect aside, did you really feel like the guy was an authentic "loser" type character? I felt like he was way too confident and willing to take risks. He reminded me of that guy from Shallow Hal with his comically high standards and exaggerated self-esteem.
