The shire war was good though. What was bad was having it be Saurmon and Worm Tongue. The idea that the war WOULD eventually hit the hobbits and they need to learn to stand up and fight for themselves is a good ending. That they learned after their journey and don't take no shit. It also tied up Sarumon and wormtongue getting away, but them going after the shire was really petty and stupid. I think it would have worked better if it was some how smaller

Fellowship Extended Cut is absolutely one of the best movies I have ever seen. Comfy, fun, exciting, great visuals, music, fucking love it. I feel like Helm's Deep was sort of where they got tired. Return has good moments, but bad ones, too, it just felt a little exhausted by the end.

jackson said he cut it because it didn't really serve any purpose. it works in the books because of the structure of the chapters, frodo gets stung by the spider and gets dragged away, and that's then the chapter ends and we go back to aragorn and the black gate stuff, so when the mouth of sauron scene happens we don't know how he got the mithril armor or what happened to frodo and sam
