It's pretty enjoyable and faithful to the story for the most part. There are a few parts and details left out due to the nature of film or censorship, though. The story about the lesbian kid going down on her piano teacher is lost in the movie, and the chapter involving Watanabe in the field of fireflies was cut which I think could have given the movie more artistic credit.

never read the book but it's a good movie
saw it in theatre for some foreign film event several years ago

Have you read it? It's titled that because the protagonist hearing it as a middle aged man evoked memories of his first love whose favorite song was 'Norwegian Wood'.

It's just ok, not really that good but not really bad.

As an adaption it doesn't have the part of the 13 year old girl seducing her adult female piano teacher so it sucks.

Yeah, but it doesn't really affect the plot in a major way. Plus, it's a hard sell to convince a studio to let you film a scene depicting a teenage girl giving an adult woman head.
