The Q saving Julia fit their book characters but honestly him using a demon to take her out when she niffed out made no sense.

In some ways the books just can't be surpassed. The way the characters are built shows them to only operate a certain way and.. they're mismatching pieces from books trying to make their own story and to be judge on their own merits..

Like they have this build up for the beast and then..they handle everything so anticlimatically. Now I suppose they'll add book 2 stuff like sailing voyage and all other stuff but at moment..story is a mess and characters are different in some ways..

Like penny loses his hands but he eventually figures out how to make magical constructs that work better than his old hands. he was an autismo-dick but he was penny.

Then they turn him into a chad, and now comic relief. I don't get the writers decisions sometimes.

Previews showed them trying to resurrect Alice, which makes sense. I was actually growing to like Martin/The Beast -- can't imagine he's gone for good, though. But Marina's death seems set in stone; it reminds me of her actress's death in Hannibal (actually, now that I think about it, her dying to Reynard is definitely a nod to Hannibal).

Once she went niffin mode, essentially when a magician tries to channel too much magic, it alters them and turns them into a kind of demon.

So Q released the protective demon he had stored in his back and they fought.

Apparently it either killed her or severely injured her but thats what that was.

In the books the demon wouldn't have been strong enough but they needed to explain how they survive her going Niffin since essentially when a magician becomes one, they're an impulse driven killing machine that only really does anything out of boredom.

They're kind of described like Archon's from starcraft, a floating demon traveling around universe chasing whatever whim strikes their fancy and damn near unkillable.

In books Alice annihilates Martin after he hands all of them their asses, save alice who goes nuclear to take him out.

Pretty interesting plot wise, magic is cool, characters are a bit meh, usual school tropes (outsider main character, nerdy smart girl, edgy rebel dude etc etc).
As for erotic? Way more sex scenes than there needs to be for an adaptaion of a YA novel, including a mildly graphic rape scene (the cum dribbles out of her afterwards too lol). Heaps of side boob but no real nudity
