haven't been on in a while but what's your guys thoughts on this movie. I thought it would ok but after seeing it I kinda feel like it might be my favorite movie of 2016. Heard Manchester by the sea was good too so I'll check that out soon

I liked Manchester by the Sea better, but I was impressed by La La Land. Definitely exceeded my expectations. I didn't think it would be able to make peace with the romanticism of old school musicals and the desired realism of today, but that ended up being a major theme, imo. Pretty cool.

Damn that's pretty spot on man. Another good movie about relationships this year was the lobster, I liked it's take on relationships

>mediocre music
>hollow characters who are nothing more than dull receptacles for their ambitions
>absolutely garbage-tier plot
>straight-up bad choreography (aside from the opening scene)
Very pretty to look at but it fails in every other category. 4/10

girl i like is in love with this movie, sends me reddit-tier texts describing it using words like "masterpiece" and "amazing". should i end things now?

This. They balanced romanticism and realism so well.
Dishonest filmmaking.

>everyone gets a perfect ending for the contrived reason of justifying the insipid "dude just follow your dreams" moral
>somehow this is balancing realism with romanticism
There was NOTHING realistic about this movie.

I mean chicks are generally into romance and musicals. And the movie is at least bearable so suck it up for the puss anon
>>79248172
Pretty sure the romanticism and realism is geared towards the relationship and not their dreams, those are just there to push the plot honestly
>>79248172
if anything the ending was completely pessimistic
>>79247409
One of the worst I've seen all year
>>79248407
You must be extremely young. Achieving her dream of becoming a fucking A-List movie star, the dream she's had since she was a little girl, is somehow pessimistic since she broke up with her boyfriend. She clearly got over him long before that epilogue scene and was happily married to someone else.
It's the same for Seb.
And the only reason the audience might be led to believe that these two characters are """soulmates""" is because they just happen to run into each other over and over again. Their entire relationship happens due to fucking coincidences. How can anyone defend this shit?

pretentious hollywood shit. Off yourself
