I don't believe Nolan really wanted to do it (especially after Heath's passing), but out of some desire to close off the films and prevent others messing with what he made, he pushed on and decided to do it (plus maybe it helped secure him some funding for other projects for all we know but Nolan is a money machine anyway).

Yeah these were okay, I mean Batman Begins has the flashback and origins thing that was a big deal back then, TDK is a tense and surprisingly dark thriller (for Pg-13) like a 70s classic and TDKR is almost as epic as The Avengers and that was a large scale epic with lots of superheros and cosmic smashing stuff.

Overall it was a solid trilogy that offered a little of everything
