I'm surprised that nobody has made a serious post, since the moral of the film is pretty obvious and even explained by Randall at the end.

Basically the world is unfair, yes, but you have to accept that as a fact of life. It's your choices who determine the life you have, and until you take responsibility for your actions, you will never get anywheres. It's really a cautionary tale about what happens if you refuse to face the challenges of life, and "grow up".

Dante spends the entire movie lamenting things which he perceives to be beyond his control, but were actually choices that he made. He chose to come into work, he chose to let them play hockey on the roof, to give the guy the gatorade, to go to the funeral, to drive to the video store etc. While he constantly acts like the universe is against him, the events of the film are the direct result of his choices. This expands to encapsulate his whole life. His schooling, relationships, and current job, are all due to his choices, and until he acknowledges this, he will never move on.

Instead of learning from his mistakes, and striving to do better; Dante sulks, and projects his self loathing onto other people.

Randall accepts that his life is the result of his choices. He just chooses to have a life which comforts him. He doesn't have high ambitions. He only wants to hang out in the video store, see his friends, and have a good time. This is why he can be happy working a job, nearly identical to Dantes, while Dante is miserable. Randal chooses to live this life.

tl;dr The moral is that to become a proper adult, you need to take responsibility for your actions.
