It's so bad. My complaints are mostly technical but that's because I did two tours and the shit they do is just laughably inaccurate.

But yeah, now that you mention it, those characters are awful. Not likeable character at all.

I could go on about inaccuracies in war movies, there's what, Generation Kill and that's about it for modern war movies with actual realism. If I wanna get any enjoyment out of these movies, I have to just forget about how badly they fucked up researching how actual combat/operations work.
Really, I think it could have worked with the unlikeable characters, so long as they had someone that was even a tiny bit sympathetic. I get that there's dickheads in the armed forces in a large quantity, but when you give me no-one to root for in the movie I'm just waiting until they get shot or blown up to turn it off.

Yeah, I agree. It's a insignificant thing to whine about when it comes to inaccuracies, but it's just compounded by the fact there's zero likable characters on top of poor writing.

I can look past the dumb technicalities if the movie/story/characters make it work. Generation Kill though luckily has the best of both worlds. And even then there's still tons of flaws with it.

The Hurt Locker is garbage that was marketed as "real war" when it's everything but. It's fucking call of duty with Terrible characters.

Fun fact: here in italy we dub foreign movies because...I don't know but anyway, dubbing hartman was a real pain in the ass since he screams continuously, something he managed to do given his day job. However, they couldn't find anyone among the dubbers who could manage the same so they hired an opera singer.
