Legalos was already absurd in LOTR. Setting his absurdity to 11 in Five Armies ruined the movie for me. Him hopping across those stones, defying physics, as they freefall haunts me.

I can watch LOTR near endlessly but I can't bring myself to watch 5 Armies one more time. And it's all because of Legolas.

Compare Aragorns fight against Lurtz at the end of fellowship to Legolas against that pale fucker at the end of Desolation. It's what makes the hobbit movies so much worse in a nutshell.
Lurtzfight:
>huge, intimidating foe with actual physical and beastly presence
>frentic, brutal fight where you feel the impact of every hit, the aggression, the danger
>fucker just mortally wounded Boromir so Aragorn and you are emotionally invested

Desolation of Smaug:

>cgi orc and legolas who is cgi for about half the time aswell endlessly exchanging hits in highly choreographed moves
>no sense of danger, feels distached and fake
>legolas doesn't probably even know who that orc is
>literally feels like the boss at the end of a stage in a video game

I can forgive his absurdities in LotR because the crazier his stunts, the less of an impact they had on the plot.
>killing the Cave Troll
It helped the rest of the fellowship but it was pretty much realistic, maybe running along the chain was dumb but not impossible.
>Surfing on a shield down the Helms' Deep stairs
Dumb but it hardly affected the outcome of the battle. I think it killed 2 orcs
>Killing the Oliphant
Again, dumb, but it didn't make a difference in the battle. The Oliphant would have been killed a minute later by the ghosts.

Jackson was signed on at the last minute, so his usual routine of prep and scheduling was throw out the window in favor of going through the motions of a pre-existing studio-written script. Why waste your time arguing with a retard then, retard.

It makes sense based on the source material since she is the son of Elrond, an elf born in an age where magic was common. It also made up for a cool scene. Unnecessary, but not overly executed and shows later in TT that nazguls cannot die. It's neat story telling.
What the fuck does that have to do with Legolas? He didn't summon nature to defy gravity. It was simply added to the movie because the book described Legolas as unnaturally light, which could be used to add in dumb action scenes.

Legolas' action scenes in the hobbit was almost only in the movies for a dumb love story and dumb action, including Orlando Bloom's name for marketing.

Also, that one scene with Arwen is simply nit picking. The whole aspect of Legolas used in the Hobbit movies brings out a huge difference in the movies compared to the books.

Kek. Elves cannot cast magic, holy shit. The only magic they know is 'creation'. Holy cow senpai, I missed all those elves casting magic through the books, didn't I?

>she is the son of Elrond
xD

>What the fuck does that have to do with Legolas? He didn't summon nature to defy gravity. It was simply added to the movie because the book described Legolas as unnaturally light, which could be used to add in dumb action scenes.

Here is what it means, it mean you are able to defend and entirely just as retarded scene, entirely un canon from another movie, made by the same person, but not another scene which is just as relevant on a the retard scale.

In short, I am showing the bias you have against these movies, a bias you picked up here.

>Also, that one scene with Arwen is simply nit picking. The whole aspect of Legolas used in the Hobbit movies brings out a huge difference in the movies compared to the books.

Kek, "nitpicking", holy fucking shit. You understand Arwen's place in the book is a literal chapter in the appendices? She does not appear, at all throughout the entire narrative, at all. Aragorns is alluded to have a love, which is why he doesn't join with Eowyn, she is literally not even seen throughout the novel, at all. Her character is a conglomerate of many others, mainly Elronds other sons.

Go on, please tell me how that works for LOTR's story, and Legolas running on falling rocks doesn't. Please, I will be waiting.

The main orc guy (Bolg) fought him to a draw in the second movie.

But he and elves in general both in the movies and the books are too overpowered. Tolkien's favorite. They're basically demigods to humans and dwarves.

In the original novel, Legolass agrees to help Gandalf as a favor, in return for him having saved the life of his chief before the events of the story. However, he was afraid of the men of the Vales of Anduin, who shot arrows at the Elves (including the chief whom Gandalf saved) to keep them from stealing livestock.

Why lie so obviously?

>. Near him sat the Lady Arwen. To his surprise Frodo saw that Aragorn stood beside her; his dark cloak was thrown back, and he seemed to be clad in elven-mail, and a star shone on his breast. They spoke together, and then suddenly it seemed to Frodo that Arwen turned towards him, and the light of her eyes fell on him from afar and pierced his heart.

The good thing about it though is that, since the hobbit trilogy is already terribly bad, this scene ruins nothing.
>>
>>79172265
>Here is what it means, it mean you are able to defend and entirely just as retarded scene, entirely un canon from another movie, made by the same person, but not another scene which is just as relevant on a the retard scale.
No, any uncanon work done in the LOTR movies were in a moderate, non-retarded way.

>In short, I am showing the bias you have against these movies, a bias you picked up here.
I've had this bias since about two hours into the first hobbit movie.

>You understand Arwen's place in the book is a literal chapter in the appendices?
Yeah, and they only twice in the movies. Close to weathertops and in Rivendell. Otherwise she's a distant character with a connection to Aragorn. It worked well and gave a deeper connection between Aragorn in Arwen, because a love story often contributes to the story if it's done correctly. LOTR movies handled this correctly.

Go on, please tell me how that works for LOTR's story, and Legolas running on falling rocks doesn't. Please, I will be waiting.
Legolas wasn't over powered. He was on an equal level as Aragorn and Gimli fighting wise. In the Hobbit movies he became ridiculously powerful, which was so off putting in the movie I was laughing while watching at how terrible it was.
>>

Funnily enough this shit is possibly a bit closer to the book Legolas than LotR movies. Tolkien elves are ridiculously overpowered compared to everyone else, and Legolas (like all princes in fiction those days) one of the best of them. Then again, heroes of the War of the Ring pale in comparison to earlier heroes, back when the actual gods were pulling shenanigans.
>>
>>79169816

how has that not lead to brain damage and a fatal infection?
>>
>>79178495
Legolas is a fairly mediocre one though. Nigga ain't Glorfindel or something. Back in the old days, elves were really something else, fighting balrogs and everything. The idea of Legolas fighting one is ridiculous.
>>
>>79178495
Tolkien HIGH elves are ridiculously overpowered compared to everyone else.

Very few of them actually exist in middle-earth. The vast majority live in Valinor. Legolas as depicted in LotR is ridiculous.

It would never be LOTR 2.0. There's simply not enough material in a tiny children's book for 3 films. He could've had a decade to prep and he'd still have to fill out the script with quipping and Legolas vs Oliphaunt tier sequences.

It's Extended Edition only.

In that scene they DO fire again, but they release a 2nd wave of spinning shit. By the time the archers are standing up in order to fire again, the cavalry hits them.
>>
>>79196194
The point is the Elves moved into position with methodical precision. They would have moved back behind the spearmen eventually. They didn't know they had spinning shit.

The scene with elves firing is cool and I wish they'd been more of that, firing in unison.
>>
>>79197421
Gosh those elves sure are clever.
>>
>>79197450
In that case they expected the dorfs to do the same shit as usual. Not to have stupid spinny things to destroy their arrows. Fun fact. In LOTR Mod for Medieval 2. Even the most elite archers are defeated by dorfs cause LOL armour.

>and then, then the ork appears

so why is sauron even a threat again ? with morgoth still alive but chained and entities like the ungoliant that spawned out of the void who morgoth the second most powefull entitiy in creation was able to be harmed by exist ?
>>
>>79195256
I second this, I haven't seen any of the 3 in their entirety, but I enjoyed this edit. All of these abysmal scenes are cut
>>
>>79197784
Ungoliant is dead, bitch was hungry and she ate herself. Spiders like Shelob are all that remain of her.

Morgoth is chilling in the void, jack shit he can do until Dagor Dagorath.

better question, why did they force this character so much?
>>
>>79199345
Because they want to sell action figures, anon.

Also to please grown ass feminist women because little girls genuinely don't give a fuck about muh female representation.
>>
>>79199345
One of the screenplay writers, a woman named "Phillipa something-or-other" said that the movie "needed a female energy" and shoe-horned Turiel into the script.

In her defense, they did need to add a lot of bloat to make 3 movies. Could've been worse.

Why do Orc heads come off so easily?
>>
>>79169816
Whatever happened to his brothers and sister Gfur, Lfur and Sfur?

I just spat out my semen that is absurd.

He would have instantly turned evil.
>>
>>79199490
Philipa Boyens wrote the LotR screenplays as well as the lyrics to the soundtrack. She isn't a hack by any stretch of the imagination, she was told to insert a female friendly character and the easiest to do was a hot elf who can be admired by both genders, even if it turned out to be shit.

I love how it's a perfect loop. They could have played that part 5 times in a row.
Or imagine it playing in fast-forward with Yakety Sax music while the credits roll
>>
>>79194005
Mythbusters already did something similar, they tried to run on a bridge as it collapsed.
They couldn't.
