Lynch's Dune was shit though. Like half the fucking dialogue in the movie is exposition because, instead of taking the core plot and themes of the book and streamlining it for a film adaptation, they felt the need to cram in every single little thing that happens in the book. So you never get any time for the movie to work as a movie because it's busy explaining itself for 90% of the runtime.

Plus the acting is hilariously hit-or-miss. It's probably Lynch's worst movie desu

I enjoyed both mini series simply because it expanded through the first 3 books. I was really young, and I didn't recognize the flaws. However, they are a bit closer to the books in some aspects. It's really the art design and some of the writing that hurts it in my opinion. James McAvoy gave a good performance and in my opinion was the only redeeming quality of Children of Dune series. It's just the writing wasn't that great for him. He did read the books and I think had a good understanding. I also think Alec Newman wasn't that bad for Paul.

I maintain that anyone who wants a dune movie isn't that big of a fan in the first place.

A medium sized novel or bigger generally makes for a shitty movie. You're forced to cut out and rearrange to much to adapt between the mediums.
Dune is like 95% exposition, monologue, and dialogue between 2 people in a room on all sorts of heady subjects. The Lynch adaptation was about as faithful as you could get in a feature film, and its critically flawed (in no small part because of the studio) but also because it's too dense to be adapted into a movie that isn't box office poison.
