Marketing and honestly, people don't care about Dredd.

I literally did not hear about it at all in Australia until it came to Blu-Ray and a friend told me it was amazing. For the people who did hear about it, the whole "Dredd 3D" shit was a completely retarded decision, made it seem like some kind 3D meme experience.

And it's become obvious that mainstream audiences just don't fucking care about Judge Dredd, no matter how well you do it. Even the Stallone Dredd, which had both better marketing and a much bigger star in the leading role, only just surpassed its budget at the box office. If it's not Marvel/DC, or some extremely well known superhero/comic, mainstream audiences tend to just not give a fuck (Aside from a few rare examples).

The positive being that most of the time, these comic book adaptations don't really need sequels, and generally the sequels turn out worse anyway. Dredd is a fucking great film, and even though it flopped at least it exists, nobody can take it away and it'll go down as a cult film that's highly recommended to anyone looking for a tightly paced, action film. Even if this was to be the last Dredd film we ever get, I'm happy.
