Actresses were given a script but could only read it a couple of times, so large portions of the movie were ad libbed. Which would be great if they could improvise lines past "eh lets fuk". Non-blue chick is pretty bad.
Lesbian stuff was over sensationalized. The author was really pissed about the sex scene. In the book it was really well done, but this was over the top.
Blue was also poorly used. In the comic the whole thing was black and white and blue was used to really punctuate scenes, in this blue was used way too much and it lost meaning.

I have mixed feelings. I agree that the sex scene is more well done in the book. The extended film version is exploitative to the point of being comical. Like, it's important to show these characters have advanced enough to have vigorous lesbian sex, but it could've easily been 2 and a half minutes and still retain the same if not better impact.

Everything else though, I enjoy the film version more. The book's story is a fine coming of age tale, but the movie appears more ambitious and is really able to explore the adolescent awakening angle on an epic scale.
