It's not like Clerks at all.

Clerks is good too, in fact I think Clerks has more to say than SubUrbia. Bogosian's a little self-important.

No, that's not how it works.

I wouldn't go that far, but he certainly thinks he has a unique perspective when it's really a safe viewpoint.

it's rubbish; watch repo man for your punk rock kicks

I loved Repo Man. could SubUrbia even be considered "punk"? Sure Nicky Katt could qualify but not anyone else really.
i love Linklater but this movie was cringe
in his defence, he was adapting a play, but...
i guess it was a different time.

The guy had only made two movies up to that point. I think he was just taking this movie because he thought it was a good move, careerwise (Bogosian play, Giovanni Ribisi stars). He really should have picked something he wrote himself.
>>79145402
he's made four actually, it's impossible to learn to plow by reading books, slacker, dazed and confused, and before sunrise. that's two wholly independent festival films and two studio pictures written and directed by him. he had pretty much proved himself as a creative force, i think he just liked the script.
>>79145592
well it is a Texas play. I forgot when Before Sunrise was made. You shouldn't count the It's Impossible to Learn to Plow... it's barely even a film.

>You shouldn't count the It's Impossible to Learn to Plow... it's barely even a film.
i dunno i kind of like it. so did Monte Hellman, it won a grant of some sort too, I think he got like $5000 he put towards slacker from it. i kind of feel like it's between a chantal akerman feature and something bresson like The Devil Probably. what can i say, i have a soft spot for disaffected youths
