I mean across both tv and movies, in general. Sure we do get some, I just finished The Expanse and really enjoyed it, but I haven't seen much like it in a long time.

Does it all just slip under the radar, or is there a lack of decent scifi fare this last decade? I mean, I think the last memorable, or at least stand out, ones that come to mind are BSG and Firefly.

Oh man, anon, you don't want to ask that question
>>
>>79131702
Do it.
>>
scifi is expensive to produce so it's high risk vs low reward
>>
>>79131702
>>79131739

I asked it, and now you've made me even more curious.

>>79131856

I suppose that could be it, but surely it not that bad? I mean, the Expanse is a Syfy show, and at this point most shows have pretty decent budgets.
>>
>>79131531
Real scifi still gets made all the time. Star Trek space opera bullshit has thankfully gone out of fashion though. All you'll find there is cheap Canadian shows no one watches.
>>
>>79132035

I just want to watch Adama on his bridge again, have cocky pilots with cool ships in space, and watch tech marines have shootouts with other marines, robots, or aliens. All this with a strong element of human advancement, whether utopia or dystopia. Is that so much to ask?
>>
>>79132193
>We will never get a TV show like BSG again. Ever.

I can't wait for the movie though.
>>
>>79131531
Check out Dark Matter. It's a pretty classic space opera.
>>
>>79132477
Trouble is it's fucking terrible. OP wants something in the right genre that is somewhat watchable.
>>
>>79132477
That show tries to be Farscape but it didn't really catch me. I think the last episode I saw was the one where the android gets that chip that makes her more human, should I pick it back up?
>>
>>79132544
Fuck off. The show is great.

>>79132548
Then you've seen a fair amount of the show, so up to you I guess. I'd say that the quality stays fairly consistent through the rest of the season.
>>
>>79132035
>star trek
>space opera
I think you mean Star Wars
>>
>>79131531
oh fuck Lacey... you expanded my dong
>>
>>79131531

Leftists television producers don't like making scifi because it is difficult to make it internally consistent and they are lazy.
>>
Is Killjoys good?
>>
>>79133214

No.
>>
>>79131531

Decent Scifi can't get made in hollywood anymore because exploring any ideas outside of SJW doctrine is off limits.
>>
>>79131531
When did Snowpiercer come out?

That movie was tight
>>
>Almost Human got cancelled because it got fucked over by its own network

This is why we can't have nice things.
>>
>>79133605
>snowpiercer (2013)
>this was four year ago
where did the time go?

>>79131856
High risk and low reward is what is driving Hollywood right now. It's either low budget oscar bait sjw biopics, micro budget horror flicks, or big budget franchise driven cgi effects marathon serials.

Everything in the middle is dead.

Even BFG bombed, although it could have gone a bit darker like the book and went full pg-13.
>>
>>79132477
Dark Matter shat all over itself in season 2.

>>79131531

Superhero movies replaced Action and to an extent, Scifi, since they tend to fill both niches.

also in general there just doesnt seem to be much interest in Scifi these days it seems. It's like scifi interest peaked around the late 90's/early 00's with Matrix, which itself became pure Action movie with the sequels.

and also, like
>>79134030
said, hollywood is in this spot right now where they dont want to experiment or innovate. Those who do so, do it at their own peril.

most Scifi movies these days are bland and boring because they are following Hollywood's trends and ideas on how to make a reliably safe movie. Something like Gravity is as far as SciFi on the big screen is willing to go these days.

Personally, I'm hoping that Life will be a good scifi movie.

I'd like to see scifi make a comeback in the creativity department

It's dead Jim.

if i wasnt at work i would have spammed this thread with my lacey chabert pics.
>>
>>79131531
we're in the era of character-driven sci-fi, starting somewhere around moon/the star trek reboot but including interstellar/gravity/the martian/etc, don't expect anything but drama + superficial science fiction for the next 10 years
>>
>>79135550
For once I'm disappointed the people I socialise with aren't bums.
>>
Sci-fi has always been garbage with a few gems here and there.
>>
>>79133214
A whole lot of NOT BEING IN SPACE. Missed opportunity desu.
>>
>>79135678
sci-fi has always been at the ends of the bell curve. good sci fi has really good points to make about modern society or being human or makes you think about things you wouldnt otherwise think about. bad sci fi is complete trash.
>>
>>79133865
don't ever watch any tv shows on CBS, NBC, ABC, or FOX
>>
>>79135276
Jim, thismanfarted.
>>
>>79131531

I loved how sci-fi used to be big, expansive and slow paced with universe filled with detail now it's just boring, bland replacement for action movies. Correct me if I'm wrong but every sci-fi movie coming out now feels exactly the same and I haven't been interested in any that stand out.

>>79135974
was Passengers any good? anyone seen it?
