The director pushed her into a nervous breakdown for starters.

Never got why all the films try to make her look beaten and pathetic, btw...if you read her court transcripts, she was defiant as hell, eventually forcing the court to commute her life sentence to an execution by purposely resuming male clothing, because she didn't want to be the guards fuck-doll when they insisted on male warders instead of female. Tough bitch.

Saw this shit at an almost empty theater at night on actual film.
