You can't understand it because it breaks continuity according to how we perceive time. The film tells us the characters experience time differently than we do and that fact comes hand in hand with appearing to create a paradox. If you're trying to claim that the paradox is stupid or doesn't make any sense then you're not accepting what the film is telling you as truth and at that point why are you watching a sci fi in the first place?

I think the film gave a very good reason of how to justify the paradox
