Got it?

Good, that's your ship.

3 Imperial Star Destroyers have just jumped out of hyperspace.

How fucked are you?
>>
>>79095662

My favorite ship is an Imperial Star Destroyer.

I say hello to my brothers in arms.

>VFP Falling Outside the Normal Moral Constraints
>Abominator class ROU (Rapid Offensive Unit) masquerading as a Very Fast Picket ship.

>Abominators are composed of multiple subsections. These include at least five major elements - effectively autonomous spacecraft - and subsidiary munitions platforms. These subsections allow each ship to become a small fleet. An Abominator is only 1.6 kilometres long when operating as a single vehicle contained only by naked hull in full compression.

>The physical hull is surrounded by a multiple-layer field-complex - a force field enclosure; the enclosure greatly increases the ship's effective internal volume and acts as the outer hull.

EZ PZ

Stay a light year out of the system, without dropping out of hyperspace, displace CAM (Condensed Anti Matter) inside of their engine room, boom.

Or use effectors to disable the engines. Or to program their navcomputer to run into the planet. Or mentally torture the ship's AI by manipulating its own thoughts through displacement of electrons inside of the physical medium running the AI, until it kills itself. You know, get creative.

Or go overkill, by using gridfire on a sphere of 10 AU in diameter centered around the local star. What you do is you pull the energy grid that serves as an 'upward' boundary to hyperspace until it comes into contact with normal space and obliterate anything in an event making a quasar look dim.

>aerodynamics arent a factor in spac?
three big factors I could see for why you should keep spaceships aerodynamical.

1. atmospheric landings/take offs
2. Less surface area traveling forward means less likely to hit random space shit (micro meteors or other rocks) that would cause damage.
3. Reduce Drag. Now before you jump at me and say there is no atmosphere in space to cause drag, lets just clarify, there is still STUFF in space. Tiny rocks, some dust, etc. And we are talking about FTL speeds. So even if there is only 1 dust particle per mile, that's still millions of dust particles hitting your hull surface per second in FTL. That shit is going to add up.

Such wasted potential in both the Anime and the Manga, and the Anime is fucking ruined by the shitty CG. Reminds me of when you first started seeing CG spaceships in movies and TV, and although they're now 90% of the way there now, they did and still do look like complete shit compared to traditional effects. It will be another 50 fucking years before CG can do passable anime.

Also,
Why is it built into an asteroid when the asteroid is so fucking small compared to the ship? Water/deadmass shielding is already all around the rest of the ship, it's not like they couldn't have just beefed up the outer ice layer all around.

Speaking of feels, the end of Surface Detail. The gaz giant ring battle scene in Surface Detail.

It's a movie, and the good guys are supposed to win, but the same way Stormtroopers are very precise and a force to reckon even when they miss every hit against main characters and are getting beat by Ewoks because PLOT, TIEs are brutally effective, fast and maneuverable and with incredible powerful weapons. They lack Hyperdrive, Life support and Shields, but the first two aren't necessary because TIEs are escort interceptors of short range, the third is bullshit though.

Depends, your Psykers can't do shit without the Warp, so in a neutral space your Psykers are ineffective, you need to be in 40k Universe to use them

Also for your shields and armor, a modern tank is tougher than a baneblade, so I dunno what to say

Both universes (SW and 40K) suffer from writers who have no idea what numbers mean and they just write what they want, in case of SW the numbers are crazy high for what in reality they can do, in 40k their numbers tend to be crazy low for what they can do. For example a supernovalike weapon in 40k has less megatons than current nukes, so go figure how that can cause a supernova.

a stray culture janitorial drone could with a bit of elbow grease literally disassemble an entire star destroyer into escape pods that safely landed on the nearest planet with all the crew members intact and with enough supplies and radio equipment to get all the staff back home to their families within the year, actually destroying them as a GSV would probably get you bullied for the next 2 centuries by the other Minds for being such an inelegant spaz
>>
>>79105740

The movies do not indicate anything of the kind. Tarkin was impressed by the Death Star test for destroying a city which was about as devastating as a nuke.

Star Wars EU isn't canon. None of the writers give a shit about it and neither do any of the movies. Darth Maul is dead and Obi-Wan lived on Tatooine looking over Luke.

My favorite ship is the omega-class Earth Alliance Destroyer, such as pic related.

Two against one, I'm not sure how it would fare against an Imperial Star Destroyer, but it can launch its own fighters, called Starfuries, which are fare more agile and maneuverable than TIE Fighters. In a one on one fight I'd say it was a 50/50 chance.

The culture is a relatively cutting edge civilization, and is pretty lively compared to some of the older and bigger civs that have settled, but it doesn't have the sheer mass that other civilizations have. There are more powerful intelligences than the Minds, there are civs that have higher populations than the entire culture in single solar systems, and now we're not even talking about all the fucking sublimed that are to the culture what the culture is to bronze age civilizations that think the night sky is the body of a godess standing over them, i.e that class of being is so fucking beyond them that an entire novel is written over how the culture collectively shits their pants when a player on that tier of power merely shows it's face in the physical universe without actually doing anything (Excession). Even if the culture applies themselves and doesn't get wiped out by a sneeze the road to that point is so long that the concept of what the culture is would dissolve and be forgotten by anyone except futuro-archeologists who maybe plugged into the memory banks of a forgotten mothballed Mind and realized that this is one of the ancestors of the ancestors of the ancestors of one of the dozens of civilizations that constituted the founders of the cultural conglomerate that he hails from, if the concept of civilizations isn't passé by that level of development

You greatly overestimate the effectively of nukes in space. BSG ship to ship nukes aren't powerful enough to take or even heavily damage an unshielded Battlestar and the Death Star is thousands of times larger and has shields. Alright so I looked it up and one of the designers from Expanse is a Rush fan so that's why he named it the Rocinante. Sick ship though.

Still won't compare to hiding inside a star, as evidenced by the fact that even the death star's laser was safe enough to stand within a few feet of

Even the orthogonalists admit that there are values immanent to advanced intelligence, most importantly, those described by Steve Omohundro as ‘basic AI drives’ — now terminologically fixed as ‘Omohundro drives’. These are sub-goals, instrumentally required by (almost) any terminal goals. They include such general presuppositions for practical achievement as self-preservation, efficiency, resource acquisition, and creativity. At the most simple, and in the grain of the existing debate, the anti-orthogonalist position is therefore that Omohundro drives exhaust the domain of real purposes. Nature has never generated a terminal value except through hypertrophy of an instrumental value. To look outside nature for sovereign purposes is not an undertaking compatible with techno-scientific integrity, or one with the slightest prospect of success.

The main objection to this anti-orthogonalism, which does not strike us as intellectually respectable, takes the form: If the only purposes guiding the behavior of an artificial superintelligence are Omohundro drives, then we’re cooked. Predictably, I have trouble even understanding this as an argument. If the sun is destined to expand into a red giant, then the earth is cooked — are we supposed to draw astrophysical consequences from that? Intelligences do their own thing, in direct proportion to their intelligence, and if we can’t live with that, it’s true that we probably can’t live at all. Sadness isn’t an argument.

smartness doesn't have anything to do with it, the Minds aren't wankers because they're part of a evolutionary line that started with superintelligences that weren't wankers and made better not-wankers until you ended up with the Minds

if you started out with a dickhead superintelligence then it would probably make more and better dickheads until you had a bunch of Dickheads running around making the galaxy a hard place to live
