imdb is privately owned and operated. free speech isn't guaranteed and it certainly isn't an inalienable right to fill every public forum on earth with your volatile hate speech
>>
It is their board they can do what they want with it.
>>
it really does slowly dying
>>
>>79088298
>he thinks this is about free speech

You can go to thousands of message boards and discuss whatever you want. Eliminating ONE of them isn't going to change anything.
>>
>>79088298

The thing you need to be more concerned about it what is Amazon's long game, how long till they stop reviews on Amazon.com which is worrying seeing they are trying to crack into the food business now as well
>>
>>79088298
Well, there's always Stormfront, Nazi.
>>
>After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide.

lmao so they finally realized their message board is cancer and decided to put it out of it's misery. Good for them.

>>79098907
Sure it has. If you severely interfere with somebody's channels to speak publicly, then it starts to become an issue of freedom of speech, especially since the government and these corporations have worked together to suppress the proliferation of ideas they don't like.

An analogy would be banning the sale of ammo to restrict the right of owning a gun.
>>
>>79099407
The easiest and most obvious problem to point out with what you're saying is corporate entities have no obligations to the bill of rights.

A slightly less obvious point against you is how the IMDB message boards have been absolutely worthless for as long as they've existed.

A third point against you is how, if there really is a controlling entity seeking to quash all dissent on the internet, they know they don't actually need to shut down avenues of discourse. They can just flood those avenues with so much shit it makes everything contained therein look like shit.
>>
>>79099407
>An analogy would be banning the sale of ammo to restrict the right of owning a gun.
Does it mention ammo in the constitution? Didn't think so Drumpflet
>>
>>79099533
>The easiest and most obvious problem to point out with what you're saying is corporate entities have no obligations to the bill of rights.

As I've said, a lot of this has been motivated by the government pressuring these corporations to get a better handle on sentiments that run contrary to what the government likes. The government and these corporations are tightly connected.

I know the EU, for example, has been pressuring Zuckerberg about this.

>A slightly less obvious point against you is how the IMDB message boards have been absolutely worthless for as long as they've existed.

Not really relevant to what I'm saying. OP was talking about the push for censorship across the internet as a whole, which is what I'm referring to.

>A third point against you is how, if there really is a controlling entity seeking to quash all dissent on the internet, they know they don't actually need to shut down avenues of discourse. They can just flood those avenues with so much shit it makes everything contained therein look like shit.

It's much more efficient to shut down the forums all together. But they can do both depending on what it is they want to censor.
>>
>>79099533
>A slightly less obvious point against you is how the IMDB message boards have been absolutely worthless for as long as they've existed.

There is a message board on IMDb dedicated to every single movie and TV show ever made, they are approximately ten thousand more useful than this hellhole where you can't even talk about Star Wars without someone derailing the thread to talk about Trump never mind talk about a movie that isn't the latest blockbuster franchise.
>>
>>79099533
Who is to say your third point didnt actually happen? Which in turn caused your second point to happen? Though IMDb was great and very useful before the rise of Reddit and social media, was still useful even still long after the fact.

Trolls are on every message board, especially on /tv/ of all places. Doesnt make it right to shutdown the entire thing just because a couple of snowflakes got their fee fees hurt and dont know how to use the filter/ignore features.
>>
Somebody set up an alternate site.

>>
>>79099642
The Supreme Court has already ruled on this before, that banning ammo like that is effectively the same as banning the guns.

>>

>>79099736

>>
>>79099769
The corporations don't have to manufacture anything at all. I'm talking about the government.
>>
They can't do this. I was a top dog on the Harry Potter forums and now they steal it all away? Fuck you!
>>
>>79099792
Who was even talking about that? Go back to /pol/ fascist
>>
This is all because people were outspoken about Ghostbusters, which was a massive flop any way you look at it.
All they need to do is have better moderation and verification of users. Could even just use Facebook profiles for the threads.
Shutting it down just makes them look like cowards.
>>
>>79099840
My overall point is that a lot of these "private" restrictions are motivated by the government pressuring corporations to censor badthink, which is an indirect form of censorship by the government.

This is true, absolutely. What isn't acceptable is leftists thinking they can shut out speech they don't like.

They can shut it down on their private websites, sure - shutting it down at universities, or in any public forum, when the owner of such forum is perfectly okay with it, is unacceptable.

ACTUAL Hate Speech, as in ACTUAL harassment and incitement is not free speech, because it is an action and not a simple expression, it isn't the actual speech which is the harassment.

In the United States, any speech is permissible under 1A unless it "will lead to imminent violence"

This has been confirmed in two recent Supreme Court cases:

R.A.V. v. City of St. Paul, (1992)
Snyder v. Phelps (2011)

The second one concerned the Westboro Baptist Church (Phelps is Fred Phelps, the head of the church). In an 8-1 ruling, SCOTUS ruled that they are allowed to say "God hates fags" and all that shit.

In both cases, the court upheld their "historically strong protection of freedom of speech, so long as it doesn't promote imminent violence"

That's why these tech companies are usually quiet about cenorship in many cases. It's why shadowbanning exists, for example.

Also, if there is no outlet to express dissent, then the dissent cannot grow, at least not in an organized way.

It's not dying, it's dead. You have most social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook limiting the availability of posts containing opinions they don't like, YouTube not notifying people when a channel releases a video whose content they disagree with, Reddit shadowbanning people, even on 4chan mods will just outright delete threads they don't like without proper justification.
Free speech is dead and buried. I'm just glad I won't be around to see what future generations who will grow up without ever knowing what free speech is look like.

I loved reading the boards for each film after watching, just to see what people were saying, read discussions about inconsequential parts of the movie, etc. It's such a shame. I rarely posted but I liked checking the boards. Would you believe I went a good decade before even knowing that there was a general forum, I thought it was just the boards for each film and actor.

If I want to read a discussion about the type of Jacket Brian Dennehy is wearing in some made-for-tv dirge at 4am, where am I going to go now?

By the way, I preferred the crotchety oddball type posters in IMDB much more than the bores on Reddit. Do you know how to get huge amounts of Karma there, literally make a thread "I watched this again and I really think it was very underrated" and post a link to any film that is even slightly less well-known than a blockbuster.

There aren't. They're all being deleted systematically and new ones are not being created to replace them. Comments from the public are no longer welcome online.

He says in an age where you can direct message the POTUS and called him an orange nigger if you want to.

Will you babies stop fucking crying about a forum? Faggots, all of you.

You know what Hollywood and /tv/ have in common? Jews.

You know what else they have in common? Pedos.

Coincidence?

spotted the shill. oh vey.

IMDB forums had everything in one place, not spread around on hundreds of special interest sites (that are also closing down).

pedos are the /pol/ users, they openly admit it

Goebbels and Hitler were also sexual degenerates. Coincidence?
>>
>>79088298

In general, depending on the board, people on imdb have way, way better taste than this place and are far more interested in films.

There are lots of plebs too but you will always run into people into good movies who are clearly interested in them. It is very rare to find more than a handful of people on this shithole that actually like/care about movies. It's a shame that imdb is going down.

>>
>>79106946
Be honest, when was the last time you posted on a forum on imdb?
>>
Why don't the /pol/beards just make their own message board instead of relying on Jewish-owned sites? Do they even lack the ability to use Vbulletin?
>>
>>79106931
>implying the site owned by fucking AMAZON would be more reliable
>>
>>79107083
wut. I said the pedos on this board are /pol/ posters, not "the jews"

They openly admit it if you bring it up. They say they post their cp to "keep reddit away".
>>
This is great news for anyone that wants to make money from the people that used that section. Just get a cheap vps and host it instead. Make sure to create a user-script for imdb that links to your site if there are discussions about the content.

Make sure to only put ads at the bottom and to the side so no one gets annoyed.

it's not really about posting on recent shit, capeshit, politics recent oscarbait flicks, whatever - you can do that anywhere.

the thing I'll sorely miss is looking up (and maybe join) decade-old discussions about old and obscure movies and creators on their designated boards. convenient and comfy as fuck access to trivia and opinions you won't find on any other place.

I get this for news outlets and movie critic websites are who wants to read edgy comments made for attention seeking. A lot of everyday users visit them and don't really need to see what clintonsupport420 thinks about political stories.
