Just saw my third Hitchcock film

He's the most overrated director of all time. Pretty much all his movies feature idiot plots and have painfully slow pacing.

The one I hated most was Rear Window. It's praised by critics so I spent the whole movie waiting for the twist. I was convinced something interesting or unexpected was going to happen. And then it just ended and I realized I'd wasted nearly 2 hours of my life.

But Vertigo (which I'd seen previously) did have an interesting twist, and that was the only thing preventing the movie from being entirely worthless. So it seems reasonable to expect Rear Window to do something interesting too.

The Birds feels like it's some huge practical joke Hitchcock played on the film industry and everybody was dumb enough to fall for it. It's Snakes on a Plane tier stupidity. Birds are not a threat to humans. The Geneva Convention does not apply to birds. We can kill whole flocks at once with chemical weapons. And drunk seagulls look comical not threatening.

Not him but I'll play devil's advocate. The complete lack of a "twist" at all is kind of surprising in 2017. The guy they think is the killer is the killer. That's it. Still a very good and suspenseful film but I spent a lot of time thinking they were setting up an innocent man on a broad hunch which I still think is a better story because the obvious answer is so obvious.

It's an "idiot plot", because the killer shows minimal awareness that he might be watched despite it being obvious that multiple people could easily be watching.

Vertigo is arguably the most overrated movie of all time. The only redeeming factor was the cinematography. The plot was painfully stupid.

Didn't care about a single one of the characters except for the protagonists wife and that's because the protagonist was such a dick to her for no good reason. And things with his wife felt like he had a plan for it but of course he didn't.
