Lord of the Rings is severely overrated. I couldn't even make it halfway through the first one. Same with the Hobbit movies. It's all trash and anyone who likes this is shit is a manchild who is in the same League as fucking capeshit fans.
>>
No.
>>
No, it's not.
It's the greatest film trilogy of all time.
>>
Even if every critic in the universe prostrates before it for 20 years, it would still be underrated.

Yeah Sam got to marry the hottest hobbit in the shire, and merry and pippin are pretty much superstars. I really wish they had included the cleansing of the shire portion of the tale, it really shows how much they've all grown compared to the rest of the hobbits and it gives Saruman a much more satisfying end. I guess they didn't want the movie to be 5 hours long or do a 4th one
>>
Actually LOTR is quite underrated. It should be as popular as Star Wars is right now and Star Wars should be as popular as Avatar

They're massively overrated. And it doesn't mean they aren't good.

But they decline in quality. Fellowship is the only amazing one. Elijah wood was meh as was the direction and focus and tone progression as it went on. It was still good but its not paced great nor is the editing or camera work amazing. Very solid. Extended editions are great. Liv tyler was bad. Mery and Pipjn become kind if annoying and legoas and gimli seemed to wreck everything

Right now I'm 1,5h in a fanedit of hobbit movies and it's pretty enjoyable. So far it's on bilbo and his journey, a heartfelt fairy tale that looks pretty. I don't even mind CGI, my biggest complaint was the confusing change of mood from grounded LOTR to over-the-top hobbit and here it's a sweet smooth ride (so far I'm on the end of the first movie and I hated it why i watched it the first time).

He was in no rush to find Bilbo, and as the birthday-boy's nephew he was probably busy doing shots and eating his weight in pastries. That shot works perfectly fine within the context of that scene. The focus is on the front of the frame where Aragorn and Boromir are, nobodies going to notice the background Hobbits in detail. Post something more relevant if you're going to make this ridiculous argument.
>>
>>79068550
Do you know what pissed me off about this scene? Boromir did something that only Bilbo and Sam ever did: He willingly gave up the Ring.

>>

>I don't think any character other than maybe Gandalf or one of the greater elves could have thrown it into the fire.

THey would have been instantly corrupted, Gandalf won't even touch it. No way they could throw it in the fire willingly. If anything it corrupts more powerful people quicker.
>>
>>79078891
>If anything it corrupts more powerful people quicker.
Galadriel's reaction seems to support that. I liked the feeling that Gandalf doesn't want to touch the ring directly in that scene, although he does pick it up with his hand in the same scene in the book.
>>
>>79078891
The ring corrupts depending on the breadth of your desire.

A less lampshaded part in the movie, compared to the book, is that Boromir thought about taking the ring, while Faramir didn't, even if he had frodo entirely at his mercy in his own fortress.

Boromir wanted to restore Gondor, make it peacefull and grand again. He had large goals, so much more grip and possibilities to influence him

Faramir only wanted the affection of his father. That's a whole fucking less.

Also the reason that hobbits are generally less affecdted, living in idddylic Shire. Frodo wanted to keep living the good life with his friends, and Sam simply wanted a clean garden for himself.

It's a simple but cool moral
>>
>>79074943
In the time frame it's based in the people who had the best training were also usually nobles and heirs. They had the money for that kind of shit.

All in all and with some very minor goofy stuff overlooked, the LotR trilogy is the best LotR trilogy this universe could ask for. It was made in the exact blink of an eye between movie CGI becoming good enough and the subsequent ruining of mainstream fantasy and scifi movies by identity politics. We can thank God we got Peter Jackson movies made in late 90s/early 00s and not fucking 2015 JJ Abrams.
>>
>>79080081
>Lotr is overrated as fucking hell

It's overrated because of the large fanbase, yes, but mostly you're just being a contrarian here. Especially FotR is outstanding from top to bottom. So much more effort, craft, and care went into these movies than the standard.

I disagree. I think it's properly rated. Tolkien set out to create a new cultural mythology for western peoples. Being from South Africa he knew how savage humans could be, and the beauty and value of the civilized folk. He put western civilization on the majestic pedestal it deserves. Jackson, by deciding to take on the responsibility of adapting Tolkien's works to film, also had a part in instilling this feeling in mankind. For that it could never be underrated.

Elves aren't just light. They fucking commune with the world. What he did was ask the snow not to impede him, and so it let him walk on top of it. Same thing with the stones/gravity.
