Carlton is one of the few figures in pop culture who represents a way out of that shit. And now that Cosby got caught raping all those girls, tainting his whole show and its objectively positive message, he's basically the only one. All the modern pop culture portrayals of blacks are "he dindu nuffin he just gettin his life on track nigga". Black dudes who "talk white", "act white" aren't welcome anymore, Carlton is one of the few who has an enduring role in pop culture. He, his stupid sweaters, and his goofy dances are so important to all of us.

that's not true, there are plenty of positive black male personas in tv, i dont watch it but anthony anderson in blackish is trying to raise his family right, bernie mac in his show was the same way(albiet with a bit of a southern black tinge on his actions and linguistics).
