I don't get why people here praise this movie so much

It's dumb as fuck and Adam Sandler's character is boring and unrelatable

I don't get the love for this movie, it was pretty good, certainly the best thing Sandler has ever been in, but the way people talk you'd think this was some amazing original piece of art and it just isn't.

Pro tip: Adam Sandler's character in Punch-Drunk Love has a textbook case of Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD). You can't understand him because there is very little artistic work dealing with people with AvPD (versus other disorders such as Dependent Personality Disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder that), so there is no cultural reference point to infer what's wrong with him exactly.
