It set as a semi-hard science fiction. It actually has the balls to make a entire episode about a battle and show it, instead of having it off screen.

Basic idea of season 1 is that you have Earth, Mars, and the belters all about to go to war with each other over disputes about resouces (Earth needs it to feed billions, Mars needs it to Terraform, Belt just wants to keep it.

Season 1 starts with a detective who hired to find a girl, and another plot of a group of ice miners who get caught up in the poltics and battle.

Also, everyone is pumped that Bobbie Draper, who is a great fun character in the book is showing up for this season.

I work as a program editor, and there was a distinct 'CUT FOR TIME' aura to the episode as well...

I'm betting SyFy told them they'd be able to show the premiere with no commercial interruption, but then realized they needed to make more bank with commercials. A lot of the dialogue felt very rushed, and the pacing suffered for it.

Still a great premiere, but I'll be happy to watch the rest of the season with proper breathing room.
