The New DC Universe movies are failing because of focus group testing and bureaucrats having more creative control than they should.

Each one of these movies is getting revised and refilmed constantly to fulfill suggestions by focus groups, and that's a bad way to make a movie. By shooting for broad appeal, they wind up with no appeal. Shoot to make the fans happy, the target demographic, and the others will fall in line. You cannot make a flavor that will satisfy all pallets.

Personally, I'm very sure there was a good movie somewhere within the edited and cut material from Suicide Squad, but there wound up 5-7 versions of that movie because they kept revising from focus groups.

That and I think Zach Shneider's directing, creative input, and production lacks vision. He made one really great super hero movie, The Watchmen, but lightning never struck twice. It's important to make the distinction between a good director and a director that had one very brilliant project, but no others.

It was doomed from day 1 thanks to Zack Synder and them wanting to do a blend between Synder's style and Nolan's style for a Superman film.

Synder is a great visual director, and can do a good job translating specific comics directly to the screen. But if he has to write any of his own material then it becomes complete mess. Synder should have just directed a straight live action 2 part adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns with Ben Affleck and a better actor than Henry Cavill as Superman.

WB was also overly ambitious to make a "cinematic universe" when they clearly hadn't put the time and effort into planning one that Marvel had over the course of what 8 years now?

MoS was a more than rocky start which set the whole universe into an odd direction.

They need to just reboot this shit again, this series is obviously a huge bust and it feels like they're digging a huge pit for themselves now.

Get an actually competent director to headline your franchise (aka not fucking Zack Snyder), try to figure out what tone you want going for your universe (can't just shift into Marvel-tier humor after having 2 incredibly serious movies), and get actors who actually look somewhat like their characters (I liked Batfleck but Wonder Woman looks awful as does the rest of the Justice League cast).

The DCEU is fundamentally broken because its groundwork is the Snyder films. The entire basis for the universe are some of the most polarizing superhero movies ever made. I am in the boat that says they fucking suck. I know I'm going to get called out as a Marvel shill, guess what, Marvel's made some fucking stinkers too. Thor 2 is garbage, Age of Ultron is garbage, Iron Man 2 is also pretty garbage. These movies are unrewatchable because they have nothing going for them substance-wise. BvS and Man of Steel are exactly the fucking same. If the foundation of the MCU was a movie like Thor 2 the project would never have gotten off the ground, it's the reason that Sony won't be making a Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe any time soon, it's the reason their Spider-Man Cinematic Universe fell dead in the water. Warner Bros. has seen their failures and now they're trying to ape off of Marvel's success more than they already were. Suicide Squad was a laughable attempt at a flash in the pan out of nowhere success like Guardians of the Galaxy, and it almost worked in terms of income. I'm not going to pretend like GotG is high art or any crap like that, it's a goofy movie where a talking raccoon is best friends with a tree in space, but the people who look at a broken foundation and say you're an idiot for not seeing why it's a great idea to build a house there are kidding themselves. Imagine this at marvel (or anywhere lese) if RDJ was directing the next IM, they would fucking bind him to the contract, and never let him go. They'd use his star power at the expense of the script and it being a good movie, all for that sweet $1B+ box office.

They're more interested in money than telling a good story. Marvel was able to do both and they're trying to do the same thing with the properties they own, but they hired Snyder, a director that can make things look good, but can't write something like the Marvel films that people like.

Tsujihara and the rest of the WB execs are full of themselves. They honestly believe they can play catch-up to years of Disney painstakingly building the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I'm a huge DC fan. I grew up watching Batman and Superman TAS. I really enjoy the CW DCverse because they actually try and flesh-out a fun continuity alongside plot progression and character interaction.

The DCEU is a clusterfuck to put it simply. They just slapped together shit because they're worried Marvel beat them to the punch. Newsflash: They already did.

The Nolan trilogy was making great movie and gaining acclaim. While WB was banking on the success of Batman, Disney had Marvel slowly but surely lay the foundations to the MCU with Iron Man in 2008, the same year that TDK debuted.

By 2012, the MCU had Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and finally The Avengers; the same year as TDK Rises. In just 4 years, Disney had its superhero team assembled for the big screen. Between Batman Begins and TDK Rises, there was the Superman Returns revamp and Green Lantern. There was no oversight in trying to connect the characters to a great continuity. Even Man of Steel didn't do this.

By 2016 when Batman vs Superman came out, Disney had TWO Captain America sequels, another Thor film, a 3rd Iron Man, a 2nd Avengers, an Ant-Man adaptation which surprisingly did well, and most shocking of all, Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians was a real gamble that Disney took since it was more of a niche book, but they proved that in the hands of good writers and a cast that knows how to have fun, they can make a success.

The realistic thing for WB to do is start over fresh, but they're way too afraid of admitting failure. If I were Tsujihara when he became WB CEO in January 2013 (long after Man of Steel was finished shooting), I would've had my screenwriters and directors consult with DC comics staff as well as those who worked on DC animation.
