It's not really BASED on the game. It's more like an extended universe where the games and the animation and the comics are all part of the same universe but they're not actually the same story. I have a funny story about that one, kind of. I watched it on pornhub but the version that was uploaded on pornhub was the islamic version with all scenes starring the divine dolphin character and a scene where Squidward says "I am a God" being cut from the film. It's probably still there, check for yourself.

Also, yes, the movie is pretty good. Not classic Spongebob good, but still pretty good.
