Father Ted is great because it is one of those shows that sets up a massive joke all throughout the episode for a great payoff. It mocks religion but doesn't go all out fedora on it.

Father Ted is Irish...

It was British produced but the actors, directors, writers, are all Irish. It was filmed in Ireland. Literally the only thing British about is the fact that it aired on channel 4 because RTE (Ireland's main broadcasting company), found it too offensive.
