I remember reading stories about how Bay had a falling out with producer Jerry Bruckheimer on this film (this is right before he jumped ship and started working exclusively with Spielberg) and all of Jerry's notes during post production were complaints about how the movie was too long an too violent. But Bay had final cut so he would go back and make the movie even longer and more violent to spite him. The absolute madman.
