He isn't stupid, not at all. He's an ordinary person with an insular perspective exploring the world on a personal note. Most travel shows are headed by rich chefs or lifelong adventurers who have no issues with trying new things or sleeping in a bed of lice. An Idiot Abroad actually offered an honest perspective on foreign travel.

Season One of Idiot Abroad is GOAT.
Season Two is really strong but can't recapture the magic.
Season Three is shit.

Moaning of Life falls somewhere a bit below Season Two but above Season Three. Karl is definitely way more selfaware and in control in this show than Idiot Abroad or Ricky Gervais Show, especially in season two, which kills some of the fun, but Karl is still a joy to watch.
