Is it worth it to buy the extended cut? I want to watch it with some friends but I'm worried they'll get bored due to 4 hours worth of movie. Is the extra footage just filler or is it some good shit?
it's mostly good shit
esp. in fellowship, the shire scenes in the beginning flow much better
the theatrical version is edited so awkwardly and unnatural by comparison (esp the gandalf-frodo convo)

I bet that costs a fortune
If they already saw the movies and liked them theyll probably like the extended edition. Otherwise go theatrical

It's mostly filler, you can see why it got cut.
The only part that feels necessary is the Boromir, Faramir, Denethor flashback to flesh out the character relationships

it cost me £20

There was one that was like $200 or something
just get the dvd box set to avoid the green tint

Do you think it'd be good to show someone who's never seen lotr before?

There's a complete set of the hobbit and LOTR for a stupid amount of money

There was some collectors edition that included a bookshelf or something for fucking $600, cant remember if that was usd or cad though. Didnt even have the appendices in HD

I bought the same collection in the OP, and there was no green tint when i watched it on my TV. I tested multiple scenes including the one when boromir grabs the ring on the mountain. I DID see a green tint on my computer monitor, however. So all it requires is a simple color adjustment. I still prefer downloading them so i dont have to switch between discs in the middle of the movie though
