I tried rewatching up to where I dropped it in Season 3 and couldn't make it through episode 1. There's just too many cringe-inducingly awful characters. Blondie, mulatto whore, edgelord dual wielding comic book character, and Vane are all just patently bad. But I can't skip through all their scenes without missing out on the plot.

I hate to say it, but I felt the same way. Although I felt that Elanor Guthrie was the worse offender between her and the whore. If they had nixed Guthrie and Anne, I would have tolerated the whore. Or, I would have tolerated Guthrie if they had nixed Anne and Whore. One feminist trope character is PLENTY. I could even have tolerated the gay stuff in addition to ONE feminist trope character. God help us if the younger generation becomes so conditioned to accept this shit that they don't even raise an eyebrow at it, and come to find us bigoted and hateful for finding it intolerable.

My problem with the hooker is just that she's an extremely annoying and odious and my problem with Bonnie or whatever the pirate chick is called is that she's retarded and her rise to protagonism in season 3 feels a bit forced since she was absolutely unimportant before that and there is no reason for her to be anything but a minor, irrelevant character. Sure. The fact of the matter is that, by virtue of their character's place in the story being fundamentally intended to reenforce socio-political archetypes, feminist tropes, stronk women, etc. often do not come out well. And that definitely felt like the case here. When the focus shifted to any of the three, it often felt like the plot had to be put on hold, and the setting and writing had to suddenly take "creative liberties" to flatter and cater to developing these characters in a very predictable way.

The sex needs a purpose. I don't need to spend 10~ minutes each episode on sex scene that don't actually add anything. The conversations could be had at any other time. How about mixing it up and having the conversations happen when people are on the shitter or doing other more mundane daily activities (assuming the conversations need to happen out of ear shot of others). We get it, a portion of the cast is bi, only show sex scenes after establishment of those facts when something changes (a fight, relationship change etc), it's not like gay or bi people are a wholly shocking and unfathomable thing, especially in that time period.
