What'd you think of the decision to film the boat scenes on green screen? Gave those shots a painting-esque 2d feel.

It's a great film and Scorsese is a master of his craft, but Garfield and his character just aren't enough to anchor the film. Kichijiro was amazing though, the other Japanese characters were great too. Enjoyed the Neeson bits too.

Is there meant to be subtitles for the Japanese? I've not found a version that has them, if there is meant to be subtitles, should I watch it anyway or will it ruin it? I don't want to start watching unless I'll get something out of it.
